Hi martin,
To sort the rims out, I did need to sort the curbing mate
Every rim was curbed bad.
This did take a while to do, as it was bad tbh each rim was about 1hour
What I did was buy a cone drill piece from halfords
This tool cost me £7.99 not bad I guess,
total cost was about £70 notes
Well I got to work on the curbing and took it all out so the rim was all clean and smooth,
But the rims then was a little out of shape, you cant really notice it, if im honest
But I really fancied the rims to be as smooth as.
What I did then was to fill any un-even parts with a p48 paste again from halfords or you local car place.
When this was all dry, I the wet and dry sanded the rims till they was as smooth as,
Well you know what,
Now for the primer:
3 x coats of this, you need to sand the primer down after each coat as they seam they leave a little grit feel after the spraying, ive since been told you can buy a smooth base coat primer, but I didn’t look.
When doing this make sure it’s dry, fully as when you go to rub it, if it’s not dry it just flakes away and looks awful.
Black paint time:
I did three coats light,
When spraying the rims light, I sprayed them upright mate till the paint gets a grip on the rims/metal then I started to spray them,
Heavy this part I sprayed them laying flat down as that way no drips should happen on the outer rims part as for the inners I just did them up-right again as I wasn’t worried about drips on the inner. No drips did happen on the inner either thou:
Clear coat:
Again I did 3 x coats.
This stuff is really light and can easy to add, it looks like hair spray
When going on, and makes the rims look really shiny,
I think there I two types out there one shiny, one not,
Best to look into this tbh
Ive included loads of pics here so that should help,
One really good tip is
Do it on a non windy day as the cards you can see in the pics help very very much
smoothing toll
primed and ready for painting
first few coats on..
on with some clear laq:
quick once over to make sure ever-thing is 100%
why not do the claipers at the same time....
as im waiting for paint to dry....
before:
after:
and the finish::

Thanks for the detailled reply mate it was a great help and you have done an awesome job on them. I think I will have a go at mine but it will have to wait til spring now.
How long did you leave the laquer to dry before fitting your wheels back on?

Cheers, the car always gets lots of response - some like it some don't. To many scoobs look the same these days so I like to be different. Maybe it's my age but I'm not really into the big spoiler/graphics thing.
