Autoglym concours championship final 2007
Some of you may or may not know but I was priviledged to be part of this years Autoglym Concours championship.
Previously in the year (June) I qualified to the final by coming second in my category in the 1st round heats. (I came second to 2006's category winner).
The category I was competing in the Modified and Performance category.
Anyway since then I've been tinckering away at all the knooks and crannies with a toothbrush and cotton buds to try and get the car ready for the final..
Also, I bought £100 worth of OEM subaru bolts for the suspension parts, painted all the hubs and fitted a Perrin 25mm rear antiroll bar and Perrin rear Drop links. I though this may smarten the underneath up a bit. I also fitted x3 powerflex exhaust mounts.
Anyway after hundreds of hours work here are some pictures...
Ok, so the final was this weekend, held at Alexandra Palace in London @ the London International Classic car show.
I drove the car (Although trailering was allowed) 160 miles to London, thankfully the weather was nice and dry on Friday.
I cleaned the car outside, and then drove her into position for the final prep work.
All wheels were removed and cleaned, underneath was cleaned again, interior hoovered and wiped down (Again), paintwork waxed and glass polished.
We left at 8pm Friday night, and returned Saturday morning a 9am for 2 more hours work.
Here's some prep work pics:
Here's some finished pictures:
The rest of the cars in the competition (They are in differnt categories and classes)
The judging was to be held over the 2 days. On Friday afternoon we had to select our judging order out of a hat.. In my category there were only 3 cars, mine, a Ford Xr3i and a Sierra Cosworth. I selected number 3. So I was last to be judged in my category.
The judging.... My time to be judged was at around 12pm on Saturday.. I was quite nervous as this kind of thing is new to me. There were 3 judges each with their own area to inspect. The judging is timed and only 5 minutes is allowed.
Whilst the judging was in progress I was interviewed over the PA system.
The judging:
The results were announcd on Sunday at 12pm.
Club class was announced first then my category M&P..
I was actually astonished and speechless when my name was called out as runner-up.....
We didn't even have the camera ready as we though the 2 ford guys had it in the bag for 1st and 2nd.
To say that I'm happy is a understatement..
Well worth the hard work this year..
So I'm offically Autoglym National Concours 2007 Modified & Performance Runner-up.
This competition being the hardest in Europe and probably the world.
So really chuffed.
Any way hope you enjoyed the read.
