Brief race report
Saturday was my first event in the new car, and everything went exceptionally well (considering car is very much in the early stages of "development").
First practice run
2.48 for the first 64 feet
67.92 overall time
Second practice run
2.18 for the first 64 feet
65.84 overall time
First competition run
2.20 for the first 64 feet
64.91 overall time - this put me in first place in a class of 15 cars, which included 3.7 Capri, 200 SXs, Jaguar XKR, Audi Quattro UR, Datsun 260Z Turbo, Porsche Boxster S, Reliant Scimitar and a Porche 964 Carrera 4.
Second competition run
2.31 for the first 64 feet
81.01 overal time (outbraked myself at the first corner - bugger!).
Both competition runs were done after a rain shower and the track was very greasy in places.
Conclusion - I managed 3rd in class (received a lovely trophy at the end of the day) and I am delighted with the RAs performance on her first outing - will be able to get the times down I hope.
Next event is 12th/13th August (National A/B weekend) and I am in a class inlcuding a 1600 Tigra and C-Type replica, which should make things interesting.

Car Specification
Thank you for the comments (much appreciated). 
Car is a 1995 STi RA, and the following improvements have been made:
4 pot brakes/upgraded discs (amazing that the RAs come with 2 pot brakes), 17" light weight alloys, Powerstation Stage 2 Suspension Kit*, 4 Wheel Alignment and Milltek 3" system and downpipe (cat free).
* Consists:
Eibach Pro-Kit, Anti-lift caster, 24mm ARB, 22mm ARB Front, Heavy duty roll bar mount and ARB rear link.
Apart from that she is pretty much a standard RA (original air box etc).
I have learnt that hill climbing is more about control that outright horse power/speed, and the quickest cars tend to be the ones that are set up correctly (obvious really).

Havn't hillclimbed for a full 6 weeks so feeling a bit rusty, but just GOT to drop into the next second down.
Rob Harriman is astonishingly fast in his Sti RA, so this may be my last glory year....

Hello Graham,

I have been running the RA up and down the "Rabbit Run" to get a better feel of the gearing - one of the issues I need to address on the 12th/13th, is to be in third immediately after Triangle and stay in this gear until I get to Cedar Straight (in second I reach the rev limiter in the blink of an eye).
I have yet to meet the new STi owner/competitor - sounds likes he has a lot of talent + a quick car (damnation).
I discovered one of Sarah's colleagues competes at Loton in a 924S (cannot remember his name) but he had the H&H Championship stickers in his car yesterday.
Looking forward to seeing you on the 12th - I am the last car (number 172).
So it will be a long day..................

I remember marshalling at Prescott back in the early 90s (mostly at Pardon, The Esses and Semi In) and seeing your 911.

Rob will be there (in my class unfortunatly) on the 12/13th so you can see it for yourself! (don't blink!)
With my Sti box I come out of Triangle in 2nd, ****** 3rd, into 2nd in the 'straight' getting into Keepers and round to the Cedar Straight starting in 2nd.
Flat out to 3rd by the kink, ****** 4th and prey through the bloody kink to Fallow and mega breaking.
Best Loton time is a 58.69, so looking for a 57!!

Aww come on Graham I only have 304bhp and have never been to Loton in my life, so you have very little to worry about I'm sure. got sent some cool pics by a mate at prescott

Some good times from what I know of Loton and nice pic too.

Why wait till next year when you are only in Worcestershire!?
Rob: I am seriously wondering if my battles with Roy are that much harder due to the 20g.
I think you will find Loton very fast compared to Prescott so easy for you!

All the mods to my Sti (same year as Rob's) once cut 407 bhp on a rolling road known to be optimistic.
I think it really makes about 370 and 350 lbft.
Before the mods it made 312 bhp with nothing more than a boost controller and a 3'' decat.
It is also about drivability, and the big 20g needs to be adapted to compared to the stock turbo on rob's car, and Richard's too.
On a hill climb it is hard to keep away from the turbo lag with a bigger turbo, and traction becomes quite an issue too.

Superb hill, great people set in the beautiful Shropshire countryside.

Very Interesting thread, good to read the views of experience & the beginer.
As some of you guy's may know, I'm currently preparing my 93-RA to hill climb or sprint next year & threads like these are very helpful.

As to the race driver and car? Bloody dangerous place!
But just so much fun, and not just the 50 seconds on the track.
I am sure everyone here who does sprints/hillclimbs loves the whole event, the jokes/banter/education and real sense of achievement, even getting to drive home in one piece!
You will love it and I've been fully engaged to it since 1992...
Pics are needed of your car, the spec, and most important (to me) where you will be blasting that car of yours

It's Gone through major investment over the past two years, in excess of 10k not including purchasing the car.
It has a full de-cat RCM system, inc manifold & up-pipe
AP organic clutch with lightweight RCM flywheel
Blitz D/v, 'a terrible & crass noise which has to go'
Short ratio box
Ap 6-pot front brakes - 330mm discs
Quick shift kit
And that about it i'm afraid, but hey it goes like stink...
Future plan's in readyness for next year:
Rear Ap's
Tougher anti roll bars, inc drop links
Motec to allow anti lag & traction control if we go that far with the BHP
Increase boost to what ever.....
Would like to improve the current intake system
Dump the interior
Two decent seat's & harnesses
Full cage
Set of decent tyres on other rims.
I have my idea's of what to fit, and also end up getting confused by conflicting threads relating to mod's, So I have placed all of my trust in my dealer who is pointing me in the correct direction for future bit's & pieces.
The look I'm aiming to achieve is pure NON-Bling, nothing special just the look of sheer capability.

it's true, i wanted to spend my next spare £500 on exciting go faster things but plumped for cam belt change, spark plug change and a map tweek to sort out my 'pinking' issues and a once over of the car to flag up anything potentially disastrous. Which is not very exciting i know but it will hopefuly allow me to keep competing which is exciting.
