Default 18" wheels on a classic

Bit of a strange one this....

Does anyone have any pics of tyres on 18" wheels on a classic? More to the point, 8" wide wheels (not 7" as is more usual)

I think the profile will be 215/30/18 or something.

Thanks.

Cheers, Ian.

Can you take some close-ups of the sidewall, and how the tyres look on the wheel/road iyswim?

From my experience 215/35 tyres are way too stretched for an 18x8 rim..You can see in this pic how the side walls are pulling inwards at an angle.

So no rim protection at all and now my car handled like the perverbial wet fish. One time the tramlining was soo bad that I actually pulled over as I was convinced that I had a puncture

The stretched side wall can cleary be seen in this pic as well..

Some people on here use 225/40 tyres with these wheels on their classic without any problems(alledgedly),however mine rubbed on the rear with just two in the car.

2 months later, with the same 215 tyres fitted to some P1 18's and the world was once again good

...just my opinion don't let that put you off mate

That's the thing. I have the chance of some nice 18's to go on, but I know they're a wide wheel - 8" wide, and I believe most 18's are only 7" - therefore I'm concerned about the tyre walls being pulled in as you describe.

hmmmmmmmm

IIRC Ian yours are 7.5" as are most 18" wheels.

For the record i went from wheels/tyres identical to Ians to those identical to the Speedlines Jon has pictured.

I can't say i've experienced any issues with tramlining, it's certainly not any more noticeable with the Speedlines than the OZ's. My geometry was set up for the OZ 18's to Prodrive settings and again when the Speedlines went on. What you describe Jon sounds exactly like screwed geometry (same thing happened to me) although i doubt this to be the case knowing the high regard you keep for your cars.

Anyway, if anything i prefer the reduced flex of the sidewall with the Speedlines. The car certainly feels more positive than it did when i had the OZ's. I'd imagine it's all down to personal preference really. One thing i do agree on is the lack of rim protection. I used to think i parked miles away from the kerbs with the OZ's....

Loads of pictures on my site to help you make your mind up.

Pretty sure that is right.
Dark outside so can't check!
Tyres that came with the rims are cheapo and not great, but can't run to the upgrade yet.

Why not get the arches rolled Burr...fronts should fine, as long as it's no lowered too much.

Crackin lookin scoob you have tho m8....if it's as clean as it looks(in the flesh that is) dont roll the arches......it WILL rust if the paint breaks for sure and rather quickly too.

These are 8x18" with a 45mm offset fitted with 225/35x18 GSD3 F1's.
Arch's need to be rolled as they make contact just.

If you have an offset between 48mm and 53mm, you should get away with it.

Or fit 215/35x18 tyres like my previous Toyo T1's.

However these are to stretched for 8" and the car will not handle well, the 225 fit, look and handle miles better, but you pay the price with the arch contact depending on offset.

Just measured the wheels, and it looks like they're a 45mm offset.

Don't know if I really want to roll the rear arches though .... decision time

Unhappy Oversteer

Ive had some 18"s fitted to my classic and have a huge amount of oversteer when exiting corners, especially in the wet.

Anybody got any ideas to why?

I used to have 16" wheels fitted untill now.

My wheels now have 215 x 35's fitted.

have a go in a classic with 17's, mine came with 18's and switching back was the best thing I ever did...reduces oversteer and tramlining (especially under HEAVY braking), your ride quality is a hell of a lot better and you have more kerb defense

Try getting the geometry looked at.

18's are for show, 16's and 17's for go
