Nah, the speedhumps aren't that severe, and they only put them in where the roads run through villages, and possibly where there are a lot of accidents. The quieter mountain stretches can have fantastic smooth sections of twisty road. Amazing stuff, some of the best roads in the World, when there are no tourists on them travelling at 20mph. My favourite stretch starts in the Hakone mountains with a view of Mount Fuji, and twists down to the Ocean via a few corkscrew hairpins, tightening radius corners and some very battered armco. oh yeah, and the drainage ditches can swallow entire suspension assemblies whole.

Some of the guys I worked with in Japan were invited to see "drift teams" close up, and it is pretty amazing. Big bland Toyota saloons with RWD and turbocharged engines kicking out 450bhp as well as the lighter AE86 and their ilk. The objective is to drift as close as possible to the guy in front, so that clip was probably a little tame compared to some of the antics they can get up to. Of course, there are a lot of minor shunts when the guy in front loses it or the guy behind gets too close.

Anyway, apologies for the waffle. I want to go back there...

I think the camera cars main purpose was to light the road ahead of the guy in front, who spent all his time sideways!

In another age these guys would be volunteering to be kamikaze pilots.
