I would love to hear the police explain to the car owner why THEY completely wrecked his car, I wonder if his insurance company will honiur the claim or whether he has to sue the police to get his car fixed.

Our softly softly procedures in the UK would never allow such manouvres to be carried out unless there was a distinct and obvious threat to human life.
These guys do whats necessary and worry about the cost later.... I'm pretty sure that their public liability insurance will more than cover the damage caused.
Good on them I say.

Also, I love how people blame the police for wrecking the guys car! lol
Do you forget that if the thieving scumbag didn't steal the car in the first place, then none of the above would have happened?

True about the thief but was it really necersary to ram the car 3 times and finally into a concrete wall when they had a helicopter persuing it, if the thief crashes the car then so be it but I stand by what I said about the police wrecking the car, there was no need to run it off the road was there? Criminal damage was caused to someones private property by the police, the thief up until now had not damaged the car had he?
Answer me this before you accuse me of being a nancy PC tree hugger, would you be happy for the police to do that to your car if it had been stolen?
Or would you hope that they would persue the car or stop it without ramming it?
Personaly if it was my car I would be well pissed if they did that.
if the thief crashes it then such is life but to deliberately run him off the road especially the third time when it was directly infront of another motorist was just plain stupid and dangerous.
Asbestos flame suit secured.

No need for the asbestos suit Wurzel!
The "pit manouvre" is a recognised stop tactic for fleeing suspects in the USA and the troopers are highly trained int he move.
The fact is, that the officers had committed to the move, but the first one was unsuccessful, so the subsequent attempts had to be made.
In the circumstances, they obviously deemed it necessary to have the guy stopped, so he was stopped!
If he was allowed to run, then there is no knowing what damage or threat to innocent life he could present.
It was dealt with brilliantly IMHO.
As for the car, and the wall...... so some metal was bent, and some bricks were broken.... big deal! At least the guy never got to kill anyone whilst fleeing at 100++++mph!
Personally, if my car is stolen, I do not want it back regardless of condition.
They can ram it if they see fit.
If the thief is presenting a considerable threat to human life and they decide to take him out, so be it.
The chances of the car being stopped without damage are slim to say the least. Fleeing crooks aren't renowned for "vehicle sympathy"

If my car gets nicked i'd prefer it to be found burnt out.......
with the scumbags who nicked it locked inside
Nice driving that too - very calm and controlled.
