For anyone interested, or not... I thought I'd post a few pics from an interesting (to me, lol) day at work a couple of weeks ago.

They show a fog bank rolling in, and about to consume one of the rigs. There was an intervention team on this particular platform at the time, that needed to be taken off before the fog reached them. 5 mins later the fog had swallowed it up. Had we not taken them off they would have been left on there for some time.

lol...There is another pilot next to me (the other pair of legs and feet on the right)! I'm not saying he had his hands on the controls either, but he was still there.

One of us usually sings it. That, or the one off the Dambusters film. It's pretty much standard procedure.

In short, a course, some exams, a licence, and some job applications. Occasionally there are sponsorship deals, but not often on the helicopter side of things.

There are much longer answers to those questions, but I wasn't sure how serious you were.

Yes, unfortunately it's not at all cheap, particularly with the Instrument Rating now required. I was lucky really, my parents paid for the training, and I was able to pay most of it back once I'd got a job. The company paid for my IR.
