Every time I see an impact like that I wonder why cars aren't made out of wood. Nothing worse than a bit of missing bark on the tree...
Car looks like a cut and shut though, can't imagine it being split so cleanly in two like that under "normal" circumstances, no matter how severe or localised the impact.

you ought to read through the whole thread, the cars speedo stuck at 100mph, and the revs at 5000, it was diesel, the engine travelled 30 meters further than the rest of the car, both people that were in the car, unfortunatly died at the scene "not bloody surprising".
quite possibly the worst accident I have ever seen.

Judging by the damage to the floorpan and the way the passenger door is wrapped cleanly round the tree, you'd probably figure that as the primary point of impact, around which the two halves of the car split.
If this is so, the car would have been travelling fully sideways at the point of impact, and thus its actual velocity would have been considerably higher than the 90km/h or so indicated on the speedometer. Shame there are no pictures showing how the location of the accident relates to the road. Presumably ran wide off a tightening left-hand bend...
Edited to say: What makes you think it's a fake Danny? That was the first thought that occurred to me, but having cast a reasonably critical eye over it, I can't see any joins. There's also a post on the Audi forum that seems to corroborate it.

First impression OMG......
Second impression is it looks a little too ‘staged’ or a sick hoax to me. I have no idea what the weight of an engine is, but it looks like it has been place there as there are no impact marks on the woodland floor..... actually the ground looks untouched to me (except the tree, but that could have been previous damage).
The last pic also shows the road is straight, and for the impact to be fully sideways as GM has mentioned it would suggest coming out of a tight bend.
All my opinion of course......

mmmm, very well staged I think, 90ish on the speedo and 2k on the rev counter. I can't see any scrapes on the floor, which I would have thought there would be as the parts came to rest.

There's definately something amiss with the pics, to put it bluntly, there's no blood and guts anywhere, I used to be a firefighter, and I've seen far smaller acidents with lots more 'mess'.
It all seems a bit too clean, apart from the two white sheets on the ground, there nothing to suggest that there were even people in the car, I very much doubt that the passenger would've got their legs out of that! if anything, they'd have been ripped off!!
Even where the door's wrapped around the tree, not gore?????
Ron.

It is a SIAL, but I will say what I said previously. I don't see anything inconsistent with it being a genuine accident.
Take a look at the damage to the sill/floorpan, deformed in a nice semi circular shape to half the width of the car. Given the circumference of the tree, that takes a huge amount of force. And the passenger door is wrapped around the tree. Too much effort to do that just to fake some pictures.
The car struck sideways on, so the front airbag would not have been triggered. But the side airbags did go off, so thats consistent.
The speedo only shows what speed the wheels would have been doing when the speedo stopped working. The wheels may even have been locked up and the speedo ramping down (they don't change instantly). However the car's velocity in a straight line towards the tree would have been completely different.
Take a look at the recent pictures of how a Peugeot 306 split in two in Aberdeen due to impact with a tree, Two halves of the car were about 50m apart !!! Cars can split in two if you strike something immovable sideways on at high enough speed.
Had a talk with a colleague at work about this. He goes to the skyline roads here where everyone brings their tuned cars and motorbikes to test out their skills. One of his mates had an accident and hit a telegraph pole sideways on. The car split in two, but he lived to tell the tale. That car was not a cut-and-shut.
Just because modern cars have much better crash performance than older cars does not mean you can't kill yourself in one. In a like-for-like accident you will be much better protected in a new car. But if you drive faster because you feel safer then you will negate any benefit should you have a smash.
Be careful out there folks.

I think it's a FAKE, as seen on the pics, there is no trace of oil, colling liquid or petrol/diesel.
Also, the ground in the surrounding is completely smooth... Imagine that this car smashed into the tree at 50 mph (probably quicker), and nowwhere is the ground marked ?
They do a lot if this things for training personel to get them used to the shocking reality if it's happening in the real...
Creepy

Got to be staged!!
No gore as stated above and not enough debris.
Where's the front bumper and lights?
There's no glass or fluids on the floor. Remember the last accident you saw. How much glass was there on the road?!!!!!
There are no marks on the ground, I would have thought there would be deep grooves in the soil from all the sharp edges.
A mate rolled a Suzuki Swift into a field and there was plastic, glass and paper everywhere!

Ive no idea if its fake but if you crash into a tree head on, I'd say a 30MPH collision would be enough to kill you, any higher and you will 'DEFFINETLY' die. Trees and bridges are the worst things to collide with.
