"According to SPEED magazine the new 22B is only around the corner. The revival of the extremely limited edition Subaru has many followers keen to see the new beast. As was the previous model it will be based on the current WRC rally car of the time, this being the WRC 03 that the recently triumphant Solberg drove to victory in Rally Australia.
SPEED's sources cliam the car is code named the WRCar and is to hit showrooms next December. Nick Senoir, Subaru Aust General manager noted that, "I believe that the car does exist, but we haven't been officially notified by FHI as to weather it does."
The new 22B will not use the same engine principle as the previous model. The 1999 version had a detuned WRC engine for its grunt but the new 03 model will be variant on the road design, but with this said the car still has the ability to pack some serious power. Rumours point to the S202 engine as the likely culprit which packs 235kw and 384Nm at 4400rpm.
No matter what the engine packs the design of the car wioll benifit strongly from the WRC development programme. Iy will have the Alcon/Prodrive 305mm ventilated discs with 4 pot calipers front and rear. Also it will be as lean as allowable along with the WRC spoiler kit it should pack a huge puch at all speeds.
When asked if Australia will see the 03 based 22B Senoir said, "I would imagine, if such a vechicle exists, it would be for the [Jap] domestic market and will not be available in Australia as a fully homologated model." It is not inconcievable that if it were released that we would see 5 cars come in for collectors as with the 1999 model.
When and if the WRCar is released be assured that it will become the powerhouse car in Japan and take the crown as SuperCar from the giants at Nissan and Mazda."
Or could this be the REAL limited edition??? (as found on the Hong Kong Subaru site). Chances are it's the one the UK will get
