This is the weapon of choice of our local fuzz. Any idea what that is? If it is a laser gun, then there is not much point in using counter measure such as radar/laser detector, as the warning will be already too late.
Thanks.

my situation is quite bizzare...
came out of the bidor exit enroute to teluk intan. knew that the 42km stretch was notorious for JPJ guys. followed a lady driver all the way, never overtook her just followed her speed.
around halfway, got flagged by JPJ saying i was doing 72 on a 60 limit area, argued that was following the lady, had a look around, all cars stopped were single males.
after all the dily-dalying, u know what they want. to sum up, coffeed twenty and thought it was the end.
parents called last week saying that a summon came through for the similar offence. how feckin s*it is that? i'll know next time... just ask for the summon and tell them to p*ss off. last time i drove in malaysia was about 4 yrs ago, guess things hasn't changed much, just that JPJ guys do speak quite fluent english (bast*rds)
oh yeah, to add. it was laser as photos of the car is being printed out as usually radar logs the speed without photos.

Looks like a Radar to me !
Chances are, if its a radar, then there will be another vehicle a little further down the road to pick you up !
Lasers are normally accompanied with a camera !
This link may help you !!

Stealth, thanks for the info and the link, very comprehensive, but unfortunately couldn't get an exact match of the make. The SOP is for another team to flag you down further ahead, but at times, you only get a summons in the mail, theoretically backed up by photographic evidence if you so require. That is confusing me, maybe they use different equipment.

Beastie, if it is a laser gun, the fuzz has the upper hand, as it is supposedly "illegal" to use a radar detector here (getting caught is another matter), a laser jammer will be even worse. However, laser will be pretty useless at night and I do have 130w driving lights!
Regards.

Black Knight, how do u know it was a laser that booked u? A suummons in the post? Don't blame u for getting hit if you are only visiting. Locals know which are the safe stretches and other friendly motorists do give plenty of early warnings of police operations.

You gotta love that little cone, what helps that gonna be
Love it when someone sees them, slams on, locks the brakes and slides across the carriageway, see what good a cone does them then...

Andi, they are usually more sneaky than this, hiding behind bushes or overpasses to zap their victims. This photo was taken when they were doing a "proper" road safety campaign as a deterent, and not as a "revenue raising exercise" to cut down the death toll on highways during the Muslim New Year.
Black knight, are u Malaysian? If laser with photo printed, there is double jeopardy as the guy whom you coffed have no way to delete the photo at the office and someone there will just routinely send you the summon. With radar, there is no hard evidence and you can "settle" on the spot. If any consolation, twenty bucks would have been a cheap way out, in KL, 50 is more the norm.

Black Knight, that's not fair, what ever happened to the gentlemen's code of ethics? My mate once had a "buy one get one free" deal, told of another operation ahead, so saved himself another ticket. Anyway, wishing for the good old days when radar detectors would sound the warning miles ahead, so much for technological progress.

BK, I am based in KL and drive a pretty unmodded MY97 220 p.s. Scoob. At least we have much cheaper petrol and insurance, so maintainance is not much higher than other cars, if we can cut down on those speeding tickets. You in financial service, stockbroking by any chance or fund management?

BK, surname is Lo. If you people are in KL, can always arrange to take you out for a spin. The road to the airport is pretty good at the appropriate time. The only downside would be if you chaps are used to a WRX or STI, then u will be disappointed with a plain turbo, equivalent to UK version. There are only about 40 classic Scoobs in the whole country, and another 40 bugeyes, the latter may not be all sold yet. But there are plenty of Protons masquerading as Evos, and I can't tell them apart from the rearview mirror, so I usually pull aside and let them pass, only to notice that they only have the Evo front spoiler and vents, but Proton tailights. Some actually have the Evo engine transplanted, or a turbo bolted on, so I usually give them the benefit of the doubt.
Also, I notice your occupation as shark in your profile, as in loan sharking? If so, u better stay away from the home country as there is now a big hue and cry against the evils of sharks, and also the consumption of shark fin soup.
