Can't get enough of that i-VTEC reving round to 8500rpm
The kick as it hits 6k rpm is highly addictive

I do like the Civic, the only thing that put me off was the position of the gear stick

I thought it would be awkward, but it is actually incredibly natural. Your hand just falls into that position and with the close ratio box it equals great fun

The only things I have to get used to is the huge doors () and the 6-speed box

Its a UK car - Big thanks to Magic Boot

I've not owned a Scoob Turbo, only a Sport so difficult to compare the two. The CTR makes a lot of noise due to its high revving nature, power is delivered very well to the front wheels, but wheelspin can be a problem. Once I've mastered the power delivery it could definately shock a few UK turbos, especially the MY01 WRX's. Handling is superb, sharp and precise only downside is the electronic power steering which can pull you around alot. The slightest pothole at the car seems to have a life of its own and yanks you across the road.

Its a great car around town so long as you keep high revs, it hates low revs. Cornering at speed it a dream too, amost no body roll whatsoever

She'll certainly keep me happy until the MY03 is available

Its better than the Sport was on Petrol A full tank of Super-Unleaded costs about £35, it does about 30mpg around town

Suppose its down to not being AWD, which I'll miss in the winter, but the fuel economy is superb for a performance car. The Civic is a in a different league to the Sport, without a doubt, so nimble and lively. It just wants to go all of the time The Sport is a great car, superb chassis and great handling, but I'd take the CTR any day.

Decided to go for the Honda over the MY01 WRX basically on the grounds of fuel economy, insurance costs, age of car I could afford, and nick-a-bility. The CTR still turns heads though I've had loads of people stop me and ask questions about it. They can't believe they are so cheap !

Conclusion: A Perfomance Bargain

Give it a go mate, whats the worst that could happen

Best way is to have a go and form an opinion. I'll bet on your car being for sale next week

I took one for a test drive. I own a standard MY97 catalunya, and although I like the civic, its not quite up with the scooby. But then again, I didn't want to thrash it as it was new. A lovely car, quick, but I found a big difference between the vtec kicking in and my turbo kicking in. Still, cheaper on insurance and cheaper to run and a gorgeous looking car as well.

Edited to say I thought the gear stick position was fantastic, very natural as mentioned above, kept forgetting about 6th though

Glad you're still in i-VTEC heaven James.

You could of removed my Air Freshener though mate!!! You can get new ones for a couple of quid you know!! LOL

Jules & I have just had a weepy moment looking at the photos, looking good. I've got myself a late Corrado VR6 Storm for £8K which sounds amazing and certainly provides a more relaxed torquey drive with all the creature comforts (heated leather, air-con etc.), I must be getting old. Still miss the CTR for the weekend B-road blast.

Will try and get some VR6 photos up.

Keep her safe and ENJOY.

I like the Civic Type R.

A friend has one and told me he would waste me in my MY01 WRX.

I would say honours were even as his start was better than mine (but after rpelacing the clutch once I am more cautious). After that it was a little one sided to be honest. I overtook him and through the corners he dropped back. The AWD does come in useful there.

Still very cool cars, I just wish he would let me drive the darn thing!

On corners I'd expect the WRX to wave goodbye to the CTR. Always been a Scooby fan and aways will be. In a couple of years time I'll no doubt return to Scooby ownership
