Cool

Spent the afternoon with a spray can in hand Heres the rsults:

I have yet to put the clear laquer on to finish them off as I'm waiting for the red tint to dry, will do in the next day or so or next w/e. The indicators still flash orange with the normal clear bulbs but I have put different orange bulbs in which has just made it flash a bit more orangey.

I used Foliatec (never thought I'd use their products) Red Tint Spray from Halfords at 11.99 and was just enough to get the desired effect.

Heres a video clip showing it with the indicators on:

right click and save target

I'm well pleased, and the laquer will just finish off nicely to make em sparkle!!!

Cheers
Neil.

Now its dark its a reddish orange they flash but when lights are on at the same time its clearly orange And the vid shows its ok in the day too if you could see it

Maybe someone else could host the vid for me? Maybe NTL won't let you link AVI's or something?

Cheers
Neil.

I think you need some lacquer on there to make them as shiny as the brake lights bits.

Hi Carl,

Its work in progress -

I'm well pleased, and the laquer will just finish off nicely to make em sparkle!!!
I've got the laquer - but I ran out of time yesterday (damn darker nights ) so am hopefully going to finish off tonight or at the earliest opportunity.

I think I'll spray the laquer over the whole light otherwise the painted part would show up too easily......

Cheers
Neil.

It looks Neil How did you get on with the lacquer?

I've seen the lights in person and they do look superb, and the difference is great compared to a std MY99 rear cluster.

Just to let those 56k people know the download is 1.8MB!

Glad you like mate

I'm really pleased with the outcome, as good as I hoped Got the lacquer on ok last night so they are a bit more shiney and protected now - will take some pics later to see if it looks better than the above ones

Looks great Jawa,Was looking at Dhorwich's post as he has done this with Black tint on the tango bits. I think red would look better on a silver car so I will get red to do the back and black to do the front indicators.

How many coats of tint did you use? And Does it need special laquer?

Hi Krade,

That was my thoughts to - thought red would suit the DGM a little better.

I basically bought a can of the FoliaTec stuff from Halfords and near on emptied it between the two sides. Takes a fair few coats to get rid of the orange. I just built them up in layers until I got the effect I wanted.
The lacquer is just normal clear lacquer from the spray paint section in Halfords as Dan mentioned in his post I think. That was 5 quid and 12 for the Foliatec stuff.

The lights still flash orange - albeit a reddish orange, I've actually put the clear indicator bulbs back in as I think it makes it slightly more orange than the orange bulbs do but I might get a few more opinions first......

Its a subtle mod but makes the car look great

Good luck!

Halford's where I am don't have any tints at all and say they don't do em,couldnt be bother to argue with em so I got a can from C.A.R called Savage by a company called trilogy. Hope its as good as the Foliatec stuff.

Yeah - I've seen them, they are the other main people who supply the stuff. Soz should have said - I bought the stuff from a Halfords with Ripspeed inside so perhaps thats why you couldn't get it.

Wonder if the Savage stuff was what Dan used?

Nice one Krade

Yeah - kind of orange sums it up well, but if you crouch down as if you were in a car behind they clearly are orange - as you can see from my movie.....

Get some piccies up

Im waiting on the Fcukwits at the alloy wheel referb place who seem to find it impossible to referb my wheel to the correct colour after 3 tries and having an original wheel for ref.
When I get the wheels and other lenses sorted out Im gonna do a before and after pic
Or if you are going you may see it at the Power Engineering Rolling Road Day, or the Surrey Oct meet.

ScoobyJawa & Krade,

Have you guys got pics to upload yet? I can't decide on a red or black tint on my MY95 silver WRX. I'm also going to do Ali G's rear fog conversion ('under bumper' add-on light to make it UK-legal gets relocated into the driver's side reverse light. A nice red bulb to follow, too...)

Hoping to do the mods on Tuesday... will post results afterwards

Thanks,
Paul
