Default My 02 bugeye fresh rebuilt with new EJ207

Hey all happy New year. I thought I would share a little update for my car. I bought it end of April last year.. apparently it had a rebuild. Well it died 3 months and 2000 miles later.. so no.. it hasn't. I can't be bothered to explain what happened but it was a mess.. get what you pay for I guess.

anyway here's a breakdown of what I've done over the last 6 months for it.

anyway I decided sod it do myself. Sourced a brand new EJ207 from ICP. My heads were in good condition so had them cleaned up and checked over.
A new cosworth 1.8mm head gasket and all new seals.. ARP head studs. Water and oil pump were good.

Had my turbo.. VF35 reconditioned and rebalanced. New up pipe.

replaced all the old perished corroded metal water lines round the engine via ICP

Fitted a new Exedy stg1 clutch kit.

Also turned out my oem brake calipers were seized up beyond belief so just got new ones.. mtec brakes and pads and HEL lines.

Car was running pink injectors and still is and tuned on that previously. I'm still running in but it's been driving alot nicer and more punchy from lower down. Turbo sounds nice too.

so lined up I have a ramair filter to go on and a new greddy profec2 boost control unit. Then I'll go get it checked out once it's been run in. Been told that an STI intercooler on top is bigger too and worth doing.

Future planned upgrade would be a 6 speed gearbox if I can find one new or nearly new.

anyway that's my updates.. I wanna say thanks to everyone on other posts who helped me along with advice. I know this might seem silly to some to fully rebuild a Wrx Non STI but I like the car and it drives nice! I could run out and buy a new one or a nissan gtr but some thing inside me lacks the ability to buy a car off the floor court or something that perishes a massive amount of money quickly. You could argue this ain't worth much but I like to spend my money fixing stuff really. I think I'm broke mentally lol.

also sourced some 18 inch Rota something or other wheels.. I had similar on gandalf the grey my old R32gtr lol so I definitely had to snaffle these up

I'll put some more pics up soon when I stop being so busy at work!

well the block was a brand new EJ207 so that was all assembled. I had the heads checked and reconditioned with my local specialist and they supplied me with ARP head stud kit and stuff and me and mate put it together so sort of half n half lol

cheers yeah the bodywork is in really good condition (I don't know many scoobs but I don't see many rusty ones about?).. but the wheels set it off I think

I don't have many right now but I'll give it a wash and take some pics this week

Hi guys hope ppl are getting through lockdown and managing to dodge the govs hurdles and craziness.

i've had a fair few bits done to my bugeye wagon over the last 8 weeks.. had to get a friend to help me as weirdly I've been insanely busy at work on feature films and stuff (cg animator).

Anyway first up.. Tegiwa harness bar went in. I read alot about the pros and cons of road driving and fitting harnesses but truth be told I love the look and wanted some badly.. heard good things on these so I took a punt..
I wanted to keep the oem seatbelt as well for ease of use so it turns out I needed some 50mm eye bolts to bolt the oem seatbelt bracket.. the harness bar strut and have the eye bolt for the harnesses.. worked a treat..

OMP 4 point harnesses mounted in.. I've never driven a car with a harness but oh my life I am converted! You don't realise how much body English you have to counteract each time you go round a corner and need to tense your torso to stay in place.. with these on you can feel so much of what the car is doing. I don't drive hard so these are likely wasted on me for full use but Christ it really adds to owning a subaru impreza.. even if it's a wagon 🤣
I got a good price on a basically brand new set of OMP 4 point harnesses.. so of course they went in too..

next up.. HTautos front splitter.. I went back and forth on buying this at 130quid but read online some ppl fitted without issue. I msgd the shop and they said won't fit.. well.. I took the punt cos I was flush this month haha.. and it was fitted in an hour with some twiddling and relocation of bolt holes.. it looks so good.. adds a level of aggression without being in your face..

oh yeah I managed to get these rotas off a seller on here.. they look the baaaalls but was scrubbing.. so I bought an arch roller and we got lucky with a hot day and a heat gun.. got a good roll on the rear arches and no more scrubbing. It's got a fantastic stance on the rotas I gotta say 😁

and finally.. and this one is overkill but looks trick.. a greddy profec boost controller goober.. I read plenty ppl are like don't bother but I bought it for another car and it's been sat in a box best part of a year so got it wired in.. right now it's just a pricey boost gauge lol.. but I don't have one of those so in this went hehe..

other bits and bobs include some stickers (we all love em and I had to get an initial D one haha) and then a couple small bits of eBay garnish to add to the rear bumper and skirt to break up the swathe of blue...

next up is an oil and filter change but the big button I'm hovering over is a purchase of K sport 8 pot and 356mm brake discs.. I've ran those on two skylines and a silvia S15 and I swear by them for fast road and track.. amazing bit of kit. And on this car i reckon it'll do damage to a fair few things trying to keep up haha! They'll ave me on the straights till we all approach those corners 😁
