Default Faulty Fuel Gauge

Evening folk.
Recently I've not been using the car much, so I've not been filling the tank when I refuel. £20 here and there etc. One time I noticed the needle wasn't showing it as full as I thought it should but thought nothing of it.
Today I brimmed it and the needle didnt move above 1/2 full. And now after driving 90 miles (motorway cruise and A road 5th & 6th gear stuff) it's showing down towards more like 1/3.
Is this normal for the gauge to lose it's mind? Fuel sender maybe? Float?...

I have a 2005 uk sti. Recently had the same problem. I stripped out both sender units and tested them. Both checked out ok. Then u checked all wiring and harnesses. Again all checked out ok. Stripped out my clocks and tested the fuel gauge which again was all ok. That only left the micro computer as a possible cause to the fault. A new micro computer is about £115 I think. I just bought a second hand set of clocks for £70 and fitted them. Problem solved and working as it should. I've heard of a few people with the same model having similar faults. 1 guy charged his battery and this fixed his. Not so easy for mine though

Ah thanks mate! Some good info. Also my "R. Diff Temp" light had been flickering so maybe points towards wiring from the back of the car?

Another common fault on a 2005. Temp sensor needs replacing. These can be picked up from a breakers for around £30. Mine also did that but was not related to the fuel gauge

Rear diff sensor was faulty and needed replacing mate. No issues with diff itself and not related to faulty fuel gauge
