Default Removing mastic when switching rear lights

Just been cleaning up some Sti rear lights that I bought last week and the black mastic on them is the most horrible stuff I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with!
I'll be taking my current rear lights off tomorrow night and was wondering what's people's experience with doing this is? Looking for tips that might make the job a little easier. White spirit helps break it down but its still one hell of a messy job

Its non setting type, heating it up a bit helps.
Make sure you do a proper job when sealing them back up, otherwise its the main leaking area for a classic when it rains.

You dont need to get it spotless for the new stuff to stick.
I take it the carafax you got needs one of them mastic guns? Cut the end so it comes out as wide as possible. Then you might be able to fill the light recess in one length.

I got my carafax from halfords years ago, I think I did a stock check or something online/over the phone. The staff didn't even know where it was it was so hidden. that was a quid a tube, but its in white,

Get rid of the old stuff: large flat screwdriver and paper towels, followed by paper towels soaked in white spirit. Yes it takres 5 minutes but time well spent.
Here's Carafax: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CARAFAX-ID...item45fbd521bf
