ded battery

just went out to the scoob, and its dead as a ding bat (jumped it to life and took it for a spin)
last week i fitted a boost gauge, i wired the earth to the cigarette lighter, and the live to the light in the cigarette lighter ( so that the boost gauge is only illuminated when you turn on the lights) - my suspicion is that this some how drained the battery? but how could it if the ignition was off?
Any thoughts as what to check, the car is a uk 99, and was driven no more than 5 days ago
i don’t have any specialist electrical equipment, not even a battery charger (ill be getting one after this)

It might not be related to what you've done recently.
My own car had a similar problem with a flat battery after a few days.
Turned out to be the alarm siren was faulty (battery back-up failed).
Check by disconnecting the battery earth. If siren battery is knacked, you'll find the siren is either silent or quiet. Refitting the earth will bring back full power to the siren and make you deaf!
