Default Advice / help

Ive got a Pug 206 (2001) and last tuesday when driving there was a loud crackling noise and then smoke filled the car which came from the fuse box under the steering wheel - of course stopped the car straight away, there was no flames but lots of smoke. Waited for recovery truck who arrived wouldn't touch the car but disconnected battery for safety.
contacted Insurance to see where I stand the engineer arrived today and told me that the car had to be taken away to a garage for a full electrical diagnostics

question then - does this sound like a big job, any ideas what could have caused my car to do this ? any advice welcome please

unfortunatly mate pug 206's are renowned for electrical issues, if there was lots of smoke seems like wires have all fused together which would mean a new loom, although if its only a few wires repairs can be done

That could mean a bigger problem though, so be carefull. replacing the fuses may just do the same again if the wires are melted together behind the fuse box

Doesn't sound good. I had a MkI Escort do similar, but it had only ONE fuse, that between battery and supply. Luckily it didn't get on fire and me and my dad repaired it in a day........nightmare though, soldering upside down

diagnostic check is a waste of time anyway. it doesnt tell you what wires are melted it needs an auto electrition to check the wires fuse box etc. they would probably find it quickly
