Default speedo on my00 just packed up

help,my car goes in for an mot 2moz at 8.30am
my speedos not been working proplry for 2 days now thought that it would just right itself,now today its not working at all
ive taken the dash apart to see if any of the wires on the back had come loose and they havent??
can anyone shine some light on this for me??

Its possible you need a new electronic speed sensor thats fitted to the gearbox. If that does not resolve the issue then it could the the speed sensor in the clock itself?

whats the price of one of these?
will it fail mot on that?

Price for a used sensor varies about 25-40 pounds depends where you go?

Will it fail mot if found, yes.
That depends if the tester drives it around the block to test the brakes. He might pick up the speedo is not working .
Unless they have the 4 wheel rolling road type tester. Who knows?

wheres the best place to get this sensor from? can they be got new? where from?

I dont know how much they are new but worth trying the dealers to check?

Otherwise grade A or hdc, I used both with no problems.

first thing to check..

if the odemeter (mileage counter) is moving, but the speedo needle isnt means you need new speedo clocks

if neither is working, you prob need the gearbox sender unit

neither is working,although its seams to be working fine today,typical!
where do i get a gear box sender unit?
or could mine of come loose?

i had the speedo sensor in the gearbox go in my98 impreza and it was around £120ish for a new one + fitting.
speedo was bouncing a little for a while and the just stopped workin + the check engine light came on, if thats any help to you.

yeah thats whats happening to mine today
where abouts is it connected to the gearbox? can i get at it to see if it has just come loose?
cause come to thing of it i gave it an oil change the other day and it seams to of been playing up since i done that??
if any one could point me in the right direction under the bonnet or under the car that would be great
