Hello all,
I have just picked up my 03 WRX STI & was looking to get a HID kit for it. Any ideas on what bulbs I need eg. H1, H4, H7 etc...

Just do the dips and put ordinary 50%+ bulbs in the main beams. Hide the ballasts (quite large) on the shelf under the headlamp units, plenty of posts on how to do this on the group buy. Reason I say don't bother with the main beams is that hiding a second set of ballasts will be a headache and HIDs take a few seconds to get to full brightness and you may want "instant" main beam.

WRX's use H4 but the STi uses H1 for dip. If your's is a UK model STi with the standard lights then it'll be H1.
It's dead easy to tell, an H4 is a huge blub with two filaments and three pins on the connector. If you have a WRX you'll be able to see this through the glass. There's one big reflector with this double filament bulb in the middle, plus the indiactor and sidelight of course. If it's an STi then the H1 is a tiny blub with a single terminal on the back. From the outside you can see a small reflector at the top with the main beam bulb in it and a separate dip beam big glass "bullseye" projector lens below it. You can't see the dip beam bulb from the outside though as it's behind the projector lens.
Either way it can't be a nightmare, just open the bonnet and have a look. The bonnet is opened by pulling the toggle down by your right knee......

Ahh, hang on my info was for the bugeye (round headlights, MY2001 to 2002?). Is MY03 a blobeye (more conventional double reflector headlights, MY2003 to 2005?)
But whatever it is the STi dip is H1.
Bugeye WRX is H4 for dip and main, bugeye STi dip is H1 and main is 9005 / HB3. All the stuff I wrote about projector lenses is for bugeye only.
With the blobeye both WRX and STi are the same. Dip is H1 and main is 9005 / HB3.
Sorry if I added any confusion.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the higher the Kelvin figure, the brighter the lights. In fact, it's the opposite: as the Kelvin figure rises, so the output in terms of light, (Lumens) falls.
As already mentioned, 4300K is the best for LIGHT output, but a lot of folk still opt for 6000K to get the blue(er) effect.

hey yea I knew about the higher K the more bluer thing, I think 6000K breaks it up nicely, I bought a set for my boyfriends car and its just the right amount of light with a tinge of blue, realy sets the car off. I cant wait to get mine

Guy's you really do get what you pay for. You will not find a better supplier or quality of product than supplied by a u t o l a m p s - o n l i n e.
They use OEM Philips ballasts and lamps. A lot of the other kits on the market modify the lamps to allow retro fitting by chopping up a std HID fitting and just glueing them into a suitable shaped retro base, which results in very poor alignment of the lap. Autolamps range are molded in the factory from the source lamp element which results in perfect alignment. The owner of Autolamps also worked for philips as one of the chief designers of HID so who better to buy the product off.
Some other kits have had major problems with bulb colour and flickering due to the poor quality of the ballast's so just be careful what you buy.
Also 4200K has the best light output.
