Default problem wiring front speakers

hi

so the story so far

no speakers in the front of my wrx 95(import), so decided to put some in after 2 different sorts returned as wrong size , i now have a set .......

so we start

new speaker fixed to one door extendard the wire so i could cut the old block of the orginal loom and join them , so its just the matter of working out which one is pos and which is neg IF ONLY IT WAS THAT EASY ......

joined the wires together and the back speakers stopped working and nothing from the new one in the front swoped wires around still the same !!!!!!!

BUT!!!!
but if i join either one of the wires from the orginal loom to the pos side of the new speaker it works and so do the back ones but as soon as i join the other wire to the neg side of the new speaker all is silence !!!!!

what am i doing wrong ????

a friend says i need to run two new wires from the back of the head unit !!!

Question

So let's get this straight.........when you only have oner wire connectyed to the front speaker, all is OK?

Why not just leave it like that?

Sounds like a short on that speaker. Are both the same?
BTW: what make are these speakers? Did you get 'em new, or s/h?
