Testing a Laser Detector.
Just wondering if anyone has tested their Laser detector for their Road Angel / Origin Unit.
We have a laser tape measure at work, just wondering if it will trigger the alert - anyone tried it?

LOL - I was meaning testing the unit without driving past a Talivan...
I've gone through 2 speed checkpoints and my Origin has not gone off. even though I was 1 of only 2 cars on a section of the M6 a few weeks ago.

Mine has done the same.
Passed 2 scamra vans on the M4 and nothing from the b2, and then when on a normal A road the thing went nuts,I could not see anything to warrant it going off.
I was thinking if it was working properly too.

Drive near an airport - always setsof my laser alert on my B2.
Got "lasered" by a cop car on the A417 and it did go off - so does seem to work.
Not seen any vans on the M4 yet though - even though I go on it at various times during the week

I've had guns on my Road Angel (newer version) twice and it's hasn't gone off...although I wasn't speeding.
About to run a search but which is "best" Origin b2, or the newer (blue screen) road angel?

The "patch" of laser light that hits you (forget the right word) is pretty small. If the scamera van is not too far away it may only be say 300mm diameter. If they're aiming at your number plate and your road angel is in the windscreen then it's quite possible the patch of laser hitting you car doesn't impinge on the windscreen area so you will not get a warning. Maybe.

I've got the micro roadpilot with the laser detector mounted in the front grill above the number plate....never had an alert from one of the scamera vans in s wales, but most strobes from emergency vehicles set it off as well as the remote from my Sony in car CD player !
Suppose its working but not 100% sure its picking up what its supposed to....no tickets to date however...fingers crossed.

Laser tape meaure prob wont set it off, the laser from police is pulsed and std visual laser isnt...
Thry sending a photo via IR on your cell phone and put it infront of the laser detector and this will set it off as it is pulsed.
Laser range finders will also work.
If you guys want a good GPS/Laser detector check out www.drive-smart.co.uk this is the best on the market...1 million times better than road angel.
