How many fog lights on MY99
#2
Hmm, do you mean on the rear or the front. I presume you mean the rear. UK spec have 2 rear foggies and Jap's have an afterthought light unless the light cluster is swapped for a UK spec. If you mean the front then it looks like someone has done a Reebok with it.

Most UK spec cars only have one (offside) rear fog light. I understand that when approaching a car from behind if fog it is easier to see the position of the vehicle on the road, as two rear fogs tend to merge into one, and if you want to overtake (in fog!) you know which is the offside. I also may not have a clue what I am talking about, but it sound good.

I noticed that my MY98 (5 door) has only 1 rear fog light (offside). I also noticed that the nearside lamp unit has a suitably shaped hole for the foglamp bulb holder. I disconnected and removed the offside bulb holder and inserted it into the nearside unit to check that it would fit, which it did.
I was considering getting another bulb holder and wiring it in parallel with the existing rear foglamp, however, having looked at the cotton thread which passes for wiring to the foglight I thought again before asking it to pass the additional couple of amps for another foglamp bulb.
If anyone else has done this or is thinking of doing it I would be interested in knowing as I hate the asymmetry of only 1 lamp.

I have just done a Fog lamp upgrade for my MY93 wrx.
I used a Sierra Front ind. bulb holder( which I incidently bought from GGR as a rear fog light holder).
All I did was file down a little bit of the holder so it could push into hole and twist to secure it, place fog light bulb in holder and soldered the positive and negative wires onto the respective connections on holder. You could alternatively use spade connectors.
There should be no problem in cutting into the existing positive wire and attaching another bit of wire to go to your new bulb(If you know what I mean), and then using a bit of wire straight to the chassis for the negative.
That will work a treat if you want 2 fog lights.
It should not burn out wire.
Muddy.

Fullonloon,
I'm not being picky and you probably already know but the rear fog on imports isn't an afterthought. It's req'd to pass the SVA test, as is the narrow fuel filler neck etc.
Whilst on the subject I can't believe they don't take the flare out!!!!!

Looks like I was totally wrong about the UK having 2 rear foglights. Must be all the ones I have even seen with the rears on have had two...strange.
As for the imports, I mean looks like an afterthought as you don't need them in Japan.
I know it is there to pass SVA as is the need for a narrow fuel filler. The interesting thing about that is that my car doesn't have the narrow fuel neck converter. Not that it's a problem...

Hi,
The reason for only one rear foglight is that when you decide to turn it on it should not be mistaken by cars behind for that you intend to brake and possibly cause a serial crash.
That´s what I´ve been told by a copper anyway. Right or wrong I don´t know but it sounds logical.
