Hi
Hello to you all this is my first posting so be gentle with me...I am getting in Jan 2004 my new STI version 8 and I'm thinking of fitting HID lights to it, my question is has anyone out there done this already and was it difficult?
I have been looking on ebay and you can buy kits sraight from America that has everything you need or so they say for about £300
I am not sure what bulb type the STI will be ie H1, H4 etc. so any help would really be appreciated.
Regards
Lee

You don’t have to go as far as America to get a good priced HID Xenon Conversion kit, EURO HID www.eurohid.com sells them for: 337.25 GBP including transport. And they use all European Components such as Philips Ballast and 8000K HID Xenon bulbs.
If you’re wondering how good they are, download the video they have in their site, or download it from eMule, that would probably be quicker!!
I hope this helps

You can either fit them to dip or to main, or to both if you're flush with cash.
Depends where you think the increased light is most useful for your type of driving. For me I would do main beam first as I do a fair amount of back road, night time driving. If you spend a lot of time on A roads with people coming towards you all the time then perhaps dip would be most important.
STi7 is H1 for dip and 9005 (aka HB3) for main. I'm told STi8 uses the same bulbs so I guess it's the same (rather than H1 main and 9005 dip) but best to check.
I got mine from Autolamps on-line and they definetly get my vote.

Firstly thankyou all for your help really good advice, I am still looking and have found this on ebay what do you think?
12000K HELLA HID Conversion Kit H1 for £266 or 6000K H7 Xenon HID Conversion Kit Blue-White for £174 plus about £25 shipping I've checked and they'll fit the Scooby, it's a full kit and pretty much plug and play from what I've been told.
Being American would the kits be compatable hear I can't see why not but I'm no expert?

H7 is a very different bulb to either H1 or 9005. Some scoobies may use the H7 but not the STi7 and pretty sure not the STi8. The H1 should fit the dip beam (subject to the above).
H1, H7 and 9005 bulbs are shown here http://www.powerbulbs.com/products/b...cturer=philips
H1 is about 40mm long, small glass bulb about 10mm dia, small round metal base (20mm or so) with a single male blade terminal.
H7 is like a slightly smaller H4, about 60mm long, 15mm glass, big metal base (40mm or so) with a pair of male blades.
9005 is very different, similar glass bulb to H1 but with a moulded plastic socket at 90 degs to the base of the lamp.
The H1 kit on ebay should fit OK but personally I'd pay the little bit extra and get it new from Autolamps on line then you've got support, technical back-up and advice if you any hitches with the install.

Also I'm not sure about 12000k. Read the technical bits here about colour temperature http://www.hid-online.com/informatio...colourtemp.asp they talk about 4000k as being most light and 6000k as being most blue (for most Max Power appeal). Quite what 12000k would be I'm not sure. Talk to an expert before spending this much cash on something that we're not sure what it is.

Back again, took delivery of my STi8 on the 2nd and I'm looking forward to getting HID fitted, everyone was right the car uses H1 dip and 9005 main, I am still looking at American ebay as I've been offered both sets with Hella ballasts and 8000k lamps and all the fitting kit for £430 inc. P&P I can't find anyone that can get close to that here for two sets?
Speak to you all soon...
