Question

I recently purchased a set of PIAA driving lights.
I've gritted my teeth and drilled the 20 mm holes etc and fitted them in place of the fogs.
Wiring up seems to have gone OK (Thanks Tripple X for checking this am) apart from the length of wire I have left over, which is for the fog light switch override.I have connected this correctly at the engine / relay end (thanks Tripple again) but I'm unsure where they other ends connect into the fog light switch.
The previous owner (of the lights) has suggested moving the black wires of the switch over to the vacant possition as they are positive earth (or something like that) but as an electrical ineptitude, could anybody tell me where to attach the two ends of the wire I have left over ? (Laymans terms please)
I've seen a diagram of the switch after searching on here but I need it simplifing - ie stick it to the purple wire etc.....

Many thanks for any assistance.
Chris

Just to add. The car's a MY99 Uk Turbo.
I've just checked the connector block and there's 1 yellow & white wire, 2 x Purple/white wires, 2 x black/white wires and 6 possible holes for them to fit in !

Now I'm really confused - help somebody - PLEASE.

Need more info.

You have removed fog lights and fitted drive lights. I presume the wiring you have done so far will mean the drive lights come on with main beam only? What you are trying to do with the old foglight switch is to be able to override the drive lights and either run switch on - main beam with drive lights, switch off - main beam on it's own?

If so then as a temporary move just join the two wires up and you will have drive lights on whenever main beam is on. As a permanent move wait for someone who knows how the foglight was wired up. Be aware that if it is anything like the MY01 on cars then it is far from straight forward!!

Thanks for the replys.
I've got the lights working via the main beam with the switch as a override but for some reason I can't get the back light of the front fog switch to light up and keep the fog's working at the same time.
I found a terminal guide on here which shows positions 1 - 6 and sort of sussed out which were the switch positions etc. but currently I'm only using 5 positions and have two original switch wires unconnected (1 black, 1 yellow).
The light that warns you the switch is on is also working when the lights are on, its just the back light thats not.

Anybody any ideas ?

The light that illuminates the switch whenever the lights are on is pin 2 black earth, pin 4 purple 12V pos when side/dip/main is on.

Wink

Cheers Chelspeed.
I'll have another go tonight.
If I don't get it working I'll post which wire goes where and see if anybody can tell where I've gone wrong.

Chris, this is what i cant understand as weve wired the piaa relay feed across pins 3 and 6 whilst removing the earth wire from pin 5. So if anything the backlight should work and the on light shouldnt! Thats if a uk scoob is wired the same as an STi.

Edited to add: I also dont think its possible to have both lights working without the addition of another relay OR if you run the positive straight to the relay and then have the negative of the relay going to the foglamp switch which would switch it to the car chasis when on, this is what ive done and it works fine.

It depends how much you want both light to work!

When I done my PIAA'a on my UK300 I connected into the fog light circuit:

2 wires from near side fog light, connected into additional relay which had the feed to the PIAA relay (from the full beam triger)fed through it.
If I want PIAA's to come on with full beam, I put the fog light switch on which closes the additional relay.
If I don't want em on I switch the fog light switch off.
Works fine.

The 2 wires you are left with maybe need to go to an additonal realy?
