Disconnecting Boot switch??

how do i disconnect my legacy saloon boot switch, its playing up (its permenantly on!), so cant set my alarm. Ive disconnected the wire from the switch that i thought it was, light still on..should light remain on? am i getting this wrapped round my ar@e?
