Question

Hi

Can someone please point me towards some simple instructions on how to convert one of the rear lights on an import to incorporate the fog light??

Thanks

I take it you mean from this cr*p looking arrangement:

to something more acceptable, like :

????

I've done the rewiring, now I just need to get a red bulb and tint the lens (including the indicators - I fancy red not black on a silver scooby.)

To quote an old message from Ali G which was largely ok for mine:

<<<

Basicaly took off the fog from the rear bumper (3 screws but depends on the aftermarket fog light). Feed the cable from this should be in protective tubing which needs to be removed. This cable was rooted passed my rear light cluster anyway so just pull back to this point.

Then look at the rear light cluster there is a connector for all the lights take the end that is attached to the lights not the power (was screwed in place on mine) trace (dont worry when I say trace its only abot 3 inches of cable) the wires to the reverse bulb (black and brown I belive) then remove these wires from the connector (I managed to do this by sticking a small screw driver in the connection end of the connector and pulling the wires out with pliers) this means the origonal wiring is never cut sould you want to put this back.

Then attach the cable that origonaly went to the fog light to the reverse bulbs cables (now removed from the conector) this was simple on mine as the spade use for the fog light fitted on the remove origonal connections (you may want to heat shrink / nsulate the bare connectors as they are loose)

then is is a case of changing the white bulb for a red bulb available most places Halfords etc for about £3 and voila job done

>>>

I'll post a proper 'after' pic once I've got the bulb and tint.

Paul.

Thumbs up

I did this, just used a red bulb and left the lens clear.

I do occasionally get people telling me that I've broken a reversing light though......

Question

What was the part number for your bulb? Was it from Halfords or mail ordered?

Going to get mine on Saturday if possible, if it's from the big H, otherwise I'll mail order from whereever I can get the correct bulb!

Thanks,
Paul.

Ok - finally got around to doing it all...

Result! (or not???)

I put on two coats of Red Tint from Speeding.co.uk and
then one coat of lacquer.

Smile

Check your yellow pages etc for one-man or small outfits close to home - they should stock them. My bulb was £2.29.

Good luck,
Paul.

Can't you just red nail varnish the existing bulb ??

- or is that dodgy when the Fire Service is on strike ?

I changed my UK lenses to clear and drilled a hole for another bulb on the clears in the same position the fog lamp is on the UK lens.

Now, this sounds kinda daft cause there is no *section* for a fog lamp in the clear lenses, therefore the foglamp shares part of the lens with brakelamp and/or tail lamp (Can't remember which, think it's brakelamp).

But....MOT regulations state (don't know exact wording) that the lamps have to be seen independantly of each other, in other words you must be able to see and differentiate between each lamp clearly over the others, which on mine, they do.

Certainly the tester i use was satisfied that with the brake lights on, you could still tell when the foglamp was switched on (and tail lamp).

May save you having to bugger about with paints, fancy bulbs or whatever.

Alan
