Coding second keys
Hi,
Just bought a 2001 WRX but only got one key with it. I've looked around and seen a few different versions.
Mine has two buttons and no Subaru branding at all.
Can I buy another key and code it to my car? If so, how?
Thanks

Thanks, but where's the keypad?
I've read that it could be in the glove box or the coin pocket on the driver's side. It ain't.
I've had various parts of the interior in bits trying to fix the endless rattles ( this motor is lucky it handles well - what a racket! ) and haven't come across a keypad yet?

It's not there. Had the coin tray out to get at the fuse box and have had my hand and forearm right up under the dash for a good feel around in case somebody had cable tied it up out of the way. Can they be unplugged and removed? If it has been, should there be a bracket or multi plug left behind?
I see nothing.

European imports (mine included) do not have the Sigma alarm fitted as standard and only have a key to stop / start / immobilze. Do you have the original Subaru handbooks with the car - should be an indication in there as to where the car originally came from and will also tell you if there is an alarm fitted ...

Hi,
Yeah, I've only got one key. It has two buttons on it. One to unlock, one to lock. There's a screw near the top of the blade which is proud of the casing.
I do have a handbook, but I don't suppose that there's any way of knowing whether it originally came with the car.
I've got no history for it except for the previous owner's pile of receipts.
Can I tell whether it's imported / which alarm it has etc from the chassis number?
Thanks
Dave

As for coding another key, it's either a Subaru dealer or a capable auto-locksmith ie:

You can fill out an online form here:http://subaru.co.uk/support/
Or you can write to them at Subaru (UK) Ltd, IM House, South Drive, Coleshill, Birmingham. B46 1DF.
I completed the online form and they emailed back within a few working days.
