Please only respond to this thread if you own an import IE non UK/EU car

Basically im doing some ground work to establish a possible customer base in NI for imports, as most import owners are aware Underwriters dont like to cover them. I have rang several Official dealers and they are all telling me that parts for imports are available via the normal dealer demand network. Certain parts may take longer to come through ie Bonnets shipped from Japan as they are lightweight alloy apposed to steel on an EU model.

Lets face it more than a few Scoobs have ended up the wrong side of a fence/hedge/wall and its the front that gets damaged! Or you are unfortunate to get hit in the rear trashing the rear end!

With Body panels the bonnet is the only difference on 98% of models some as you will Know have alloy boot lids too! I have spoken to Eastwoods in depth and they can get any part for an import with the 9 digit Vin number.

If you owned a 94 WRX import and had a mishap, lets say you bent the wing, bonnet, smashed the front bumper, 1x headlight, indicator, sidelight. Basically the car would be a write off due to the cost of repair/paint/labour!
I dare say it would be the same for a UK 95 model!

Underwriters are using the parts excuse as a clause to not offer cover to import owners! If somebody would like to ring Donnoleys and see if they can get Jap parts that would be grand as i refuse to speak to them! If your car is in a prang in NI the insurance company are not going to pay to ship it to the Mainland for repair. Eastwoods contract work out as im sure Donnelys will! They will supply genuine parts to facilitate the repair at the cost of the Underwriter!

What i would like is a list of import owners that are paying over the Odds for cover to add to the list below and just include the following. MY, Model, Security. Im not asking owners to disclose type of alarm tracker etc just the Thatcham type approval!


Due to all classics being at least 8 years old they would more than likely be written off in the event of an accident claim!

Tesco,admiral,direct line,elephant all insure JDM cars.I know tesco are very cheap for an 1998 type ra @£550ish fully comp/NCP.

Yes they do, however that is expensive by all accounts compared to Mainland rates! The high premiums are to be reviewed due to the so called normalisation.

Hopefully this will make insurance companys think as its easy to get parts these days i got a idle control valve gasket for my 93 wrx import from donnellys with no problems at all.
