Default tyre thread

ok heres my report on th pirelli pzero rosso 225/45/18". after a few months driving on these im amazed at the level of grip both on wet and dry roads. Compared to the bridgestone potenzas that i had on my type-r and that came as standard with my wrx its like comparing night & day. I suppose the point of this thread is to poll which tyres through experience are great and which arnt so great.

please feel free to add your tyres and say yay or nay.

Interesting you went for a 45 profile ?

235/40/18 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's Superb wet and dry grip, quiet on the straights and plenty of feedback in the corners.

Unhappy Tyres....

I have four new uniroyal rainsport tyres on the RB5, and to be honest im thinking of taking them off quite soon (only got 1500 miles on them) as theyre pure s#### in the wet, and as theyre supposed to be a 'rain tyre' this doesnt speak good of them!!!!

I had goodyear eagle f1's on my 2.0 redtop astra and thought they were a brilliant all rounder, and first class in the wet....i feel the uniroyals are very greasy/slidy on a wet road!!

Iv heard loadsa good reports about the toyos though but havent tried them yet

My vote goes for the Goodyear F1 Eagles........Had 2 full sets on my previous scoob, and my current scoob has them fitted.........Cant fault em, bar cost in the north...but this was easily solved by a run over the border to callaghan's in Burt Co Donegal....100 Euro per corner fitted, worked out about £67, which was the same price as the budget type tyre in the north

Also have a full set of Potenzas lying in the garage with 600 miles on em, the previos owner sold em to me with the car and I have yet to fir them, thats why I'm looking a set of white 17" alloys at present as I had heard they were decent in the dry and crap in the wet, and was gonna use em with the white alloys as summer show set up, and keep the gold STI rims with the F1's for winter use...................

Default best places to buy tyres

Hi folks

Where is the best place to buys decent tyres at a reasonal price?

I used to use Harry's tyres on the Beersbridge Road, Belfast, for both the bike and car, but he appears to have closed.

My WRX had new Yoko AVS Sports fitted when I bought it and wasn't that impressed but didn't have anything to compare them to. Earlier this year fitted a full set of Toyo Proxy's and they are streets ahead in the wet and the dry.

I went to kirkistown track day on Sunday past and fitted four new Toyos the day before, I couldn't believe the grip and neutral cornering balance they gave, miles better than anything else I have ever tried and the good part is they still have some tread on them!

We were able to lap with cars that should have been quicker and I am pretty sure it was the tyres....

Driving a dark blue Impreza 2000 Turbo, UK standard car so didnt expect it to be as quick as it was, full lap wise not as quick as the Clio as I refused to take Debtors near the limit (95 at most) saw the potential for a big off on that one without a cage etc, but around Fishermans, Colonial and the chicane could sit with the track cars. 110 on the back straight was as much as the standard 2000 turbo could hit and that was pretty hairy get slowed for the chicane.......

great fun though, only saw one other newer blue STI Subaru there, thought there would be more....

goodyear eagle F1-gsd 3.the dogs of tyres, had them on 2 previous wrx's. excelent grip wet or dry.
wasnt a fan of the bridgestone that came on 07 sti, dunno the letters but they were like a track day tyre.......with a light skiff of rain they were lethal, scary at times!
Pirelli p zero corsa on the RB were a massive improvement, dreading replacement time!£££££££!
