Question

How many people have a turbo timer and is it worth it? I've been looking at the Blitz one that has digital boost readout. Where do people mount the controller box, is it normally on the footwell on the drivers or passenger side?

I am always meticulous about cooling the engine down but get bored sitting at motorway services for 3 minutes

What are the factors regarding insurance and do they set the alarm / immobiliser once they have switched everything off.

I don't seem to see many TTs when looking at people's photos in the gallery.

Cheers
Paul

Paul,

I have the Blitz compact jobbie, it's pretty good, that has a digital boost display on it, I have put the control box inside the steering column so its well hidden, the face is just simply velcro'd onto the dash to the right of the steering wheel, still allows me to see it easily

Paul,

It frigs with your alarm's immobilisation so strictly speaking invalidates your thatcham class 1 or 2, and hence renders theft insurance invalid.

Still, saying that, tell your insurance company that you're thinking of having it as a mod and if they agree, go ahead. That way you know you're covered in every eventuality. Ultimately they're the only people that can give you advice about your policy.

Cheers,

Nick.

Just keep off any boost for 2 or 3mls/mins prior to switch off & there is no need for the complication expense or inconvenience of a turbo timer. IMHO

I thought about getting one but then decided that if I drive off boost for the last few minutes of a journey and then leave it running while I put the disklock on, took the front off the stereo and then collected all my cr@p together and got out of the car it would have plenty of time to cool down anyway so no point in spending all that cash on one!
I was also worried about what it would do to the thatcham approval of the alarm!

Hi,

I have an HKS type 1 automatic turbo timer which knows how long to leave the engine running depending on how long/hard you have been driving...

A word of ''warning''..... if i drive off boost for a long time let alone the last 2-3 mins of a drive the turbo timer still lets the engine run for at least..... 50 seconds to 1min.... so its not just based on boosting but how long the car has been driven...

So a turbo timer is a must...

I guess i've got best of both worlds, my Clifford Alarm does it for me!!

That way you can leave the car still running, lock it, set the alarm and walk away!!

I've got a Concept 50X but any of the Cliffords should do it.... it just needs one of the timed outputs.

Hi dhorwich,
If you want to spend money on a turbo timer that is fine but how long the engine has been running is of little consequence.
The nub of the matter is the turbine rpm at engine shut off and the period/time the shaft or bearing will continue to run without lubrication (& I suppose to a lesser extent without normal coolin) If you need a more detailed explanation contact me.
