Can you put them in your centre air vents? Can't remember what the pre 98 dash looks like, but I personally don't like the top mount stuff so am currently in the process of replacing my centre air vents with a 3 x 52mm gauge setup. Housing is now complete, just waiting for my last gauge to arrive before I crack on with the fitting.
Looks rather tidy, but does mean you lose the centre air vents (which I never use anyway).
Edit : Forgot to say mines a MY00.

Aye chap
Basically got some plasticard from a model shop, in black, 2mm thickness for about one pound fifty. Cut to size, with three 52mm holes in (well 50mm + filing).
Cut the middle bar from between my air vents, Dremel Multi type tools come in dead handy for this precision work
Cut a few grooves in the back of where the air vents were, slot the card in. Glue it in with glue gun being somewhat generous
I've got it looking quite good now but you can see inital pics of the sort of thing I did here http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=78247
Sort of gives you the idea on how it will look. I have now got it so that the gauges will be flush to the fascia. Once I have my final gauge (it's on its way from the states) then I will get them all fitted and take some more pics.
If you have any more questions about it, ask away

Guna say surely it's still easier 2 find a housing to go on top rather than in place of the vents?
Anyway good luck but i still wana find sumin 2 go on top of the middle bit ideally
By the way is that a pre MY98 i dont have a cup holder, no that u do either now I feel so left outlol.
Surely sum1 has centre mounted gauges on a MY97 or ealier, pix 2 follow when turouploader thingy works just 2 remind u what it looks like

Neh it's a MY00. I know it won't translpant directly into yours but I thought you might be able to do something similar in place of the vents (if you didn't mind losing them).
