2 days ago i was driving along when the speedo simply stopped working. Is this a simple fix like a loose cable, if so where is it cos i ain't got a clue.

What model/year car is it.

Did the CEL come on?

Mine stopped working a few weeks ago and the cable converter had snapped underneath the intercooler.

car is a 93wrx.

Check Engine Light, bottom right hand corner of the instrument panel, but since you don't know what it is i guess it didn't come on (as it's very noticeable)

Not 100% sure but if it is like mine (95 JDM WRX) then there is a thick black cable with what looks like an oversized coaxial connection on the end. This plugs into the back of the speedo almost dead center. Can be a difficult bugger to fit though as it's quite stiff and inflexible.

Best way is to take off the lower part of your dash (under the steering wheel) which will give you better access and a fighting chance of seeing what you are doing!!

Hope this helps.

I just this minute realised what was meant by CEL and no it didn't come on. Taking off the lower part of the dash seems like the way to go, im glad simog said what the cable looks like cos there's some kind of cables/wires under there. Difficult bugger to fit you say, well there's a surprise, no chance of it being easy eh.

hi guys theres an easy method to getting the cable off you just need to squeeze the sides normally marked by ridges on the plastic clip on the end of the speedo cable
same sort of thing as opening a bleach or tablet bottle as in you squeeze it so it becomes an oval not round

hope this helps
p.s. i know what i mean
