Default PSI3 data monitors

Looking at getting one of the VFD single din monitors from PSI3 for MY 06 STI.

Anybody got any good or bad experiences with the monitors?

Anybody fitted the extra oil pressure/temp sensors? Just thinking the extra cost, quite expensive!

Are PSI3 still sponsors of the site?

i've got one and have never had any problems with it. Bought it before i started increasing the engine power in order for me to help spot probs before they happen (hopefully!) Apart from monitoring the ususal stuff like temps, boost & ignition etc the fault code reader is handy.

Only downside to the secs unit is the lack of an audible alarm which simon said he could add if requsted.

The unit serves a very good purpose if you want it but just remember it won't make you go faster and sometimes you won't use it for a couple of days at a time, so if you have a limited budget it might not be the most important thing on the list but still a useful one.

I also run a set of defis so get the oil pressure and reading though them.

The oil temp and pressures are expensive but are also 2 of the most important readings you can have imho if you are going to read anything.

Two views on this usually. If you like rows of flashy gauges that light up at night like the Space shuttle cockpit then the SECS unit is a bit plain & functional.

If you want no fuss information direct from your ECU via the OBD port by a simple plug & play connection then the SECS unit is the way to go. It is worth paying the extra & getting the VFD that you are. It's much easier to see in bright sunlight.

I run the SECS monitor with the optional shift light & oil temperature sensor. It gives me a warning alarm for various readings that I can pre-set the level for. Mine warned me of an alternator problem (overcharging spike) & the battery fading (old age). It will store the maximum revs, mph, boost & water temp that you reach on a run & it is re-settable. Useful to look back at after a day out playing to see what you got up to.

The most useful readings I find are :-

1. Oil temp so I know when it's safe to boot it & when to back off & let things cool down.
2. Max boost so I can check for spikes.
3. Battery voltage for obvious reasons in the winter.
4. Inlet temp (this is not charge temp) so you can see how under bonnet temps are rising when crawling or stationary in traffic.
5. Knock correction which points towards if the engine is happy or not.

Another useful feature is the "Reset ECU" which will clear a Check Engine Light warning on the dash when something like the crank sensor has been disconnected during servicing.

This is my install in my MY03 WRX Wagon & my guide to fitting it

The Shift light is on the corner of steering column shroud.

To answer a few questions.

Additional sensors - our monitors are deisgned to work with Defi sensors, you do not need to buy them from us, they are the standard oil pressure and temperature Defi sensors.

Site Sponsor - We are no longer sponsoring the ICE forum, but are still here.

Sounder/Buzzer - we can add this internally to any unit pior to despatch for an additional £5.00, it is only standard on the graphical VFD version, but all monitor types allow for it to be connected via the 12 way rear connector.

We are still running a few special offers on our site ( now it's up and running properly again ) including the following..

This may sound like a stupid question so forgive me. This look exactly like the data monitor that is sold by ECUTEK with the exception of allowing program changes such as ignition advance or retard, map switching, etc. Is that the case?
