I've just recently replaced my standard gearknob with a Momo Race Airleather Aluminium and was wondering if any of you guys (Or gals) has had the following problems:

1. When I fitted the gearknob, the gaiter appears to sit just below the gearknob now and doesn't seem to secure to anything.

2. The 2x "Momo" logos on the aluminium part at the base of the **** I would of thought would line up in the sense that one would point at the driver and one at the passenger.

Am I just being finicky or is this common?

(It's not a problem for me but thought I'd test the water to see if anybody else had this 'problem')

Cheers,

Nick..

Sorry guys - Double posted due to problems with internet connection at work!!!!

Hi Nick

This was one of the reasons I didn't go for a momo on my MY01. A friend of mine had the same problem and I thought
it didn't look too good with the gaiter hanging down.
I went for a Nitosport gearknob which has a special 'lip' for the gaiter to fit onto, looks and fits much much better IMHO.
Having said that , many people have fitted the momo gearknob and are happy!

Nick,

I've heard of a few people mentioning "glue". Wasn't keen on that myself as I might fancy another change.

You could change the gaiter for one with ties or elastic to keep it in-place.

Graham Goode Racing sell a "Momo gear **** sleeve for gaiter" for £13 http://www.grahamgoode.com/cgi-bin/p...age=gauges.htm

Anyone know what that is?

If its anything like the fitting on the MY98, the sleeve is a metal ring with a lip - it fits inside the bottom of the ****, and the gaiter fits over the lip. Very simple and very effective, if a tad pricey for a tiny metal ring.

Have a look at this

Nick

I found a very simple soloution to this problem when I fitted my Air Race leather and aluminium to my MY01.

Go to your local hardware store and buy a 14mm washer. Slide this on over the gearstick and it will sit neatly on top of a lip lower down. Then clip the gaiter over this washer. Once you have screwed on the Gearknob it will hold the gaiter firmly and will not slide up and down.

Its a little tricky and fiddly but works a treat. If you have any problems getting the washer to sit still then a small blob of superglue holds it whilst you do it and can easily be broken off.

Cheers

Nathan
