Question

Just received my Defi gauges as part of the group buy.
A question for anyone who has installed these: Did you need to buy a special adapter for the oil pressure/oil temperature sensors ? I'm having the gauges fitted next week and am trying to get any extra bits needed before then.

Cheers

Hi Raj,

Give Steve Lawson a ring as he should be fairly local to you and has fitted these before. The only additional piece you'll need is an oil temp adapter which steve should be able to get you.

Nito,
Do you have a number for Steve?
I also tried the number on your website yesterday, it's out of service! I need a Defi pod, can you email me a price?

Thanks
Raj

Question

HI,

I wonder where you have installed the the controll unit?
Isn't it too visible inside the car? Isn't there any other place in the car for the controll unit then the center console?
I will have to make my swiss subaru dealer install the gauges. Is it possible to get all parts needed in a kit?

Glove box or the centre arm rest cubby hole is ideal.

Thanks, I didn't think of the center arm rest.
Is it easy to remove the center console to pass the wires beneath?

2 screws - lift the lid on the centre arm rest, remove the screws, pull the handbrake surround up, remove gearknob, pull gear gaitor surround up and it's done!

Galaf,
I just installed my Defi-Set about 3 weeks ago! I also placed the control unit in the arm rest box. IMPORTANT NOTE: Pull the cables along the passenger side (for left side driven cars), otherwise the Oil Press sensor-wire will be to short!! (not long enough to reach center console-box!). Also, you need extension powercables to get to the power source! I used the radio as source since it has all the cables you need (incl. light!) for the connection and I could even use the fuses from the radio! Please drop me a line or e-mail me if you need hints, tipps or any additional help! daniel.saredi@ch.gm.com / +41 (0)79 230 0518.
Cheers + Good Luck!

Salut Laurent,
I bought mine at 'New Age Motorsport'. They cost about GBP 460.00 (CHF 1130.00) everything incl. (expt. shipping CHF 230.00) UPS-Service was excellent as well (got mine 1 day after the package has been sent out of the UK!!). Thank god I didn't have to pay the UK-VAT since Switzerland is not (yet) in the EU!
Also, for the Turbo Sensor which has to be attached horizontally if possible to an existing screw in the engine area, I used an extension metal-angle from a hardware store, since the rubber pipe was not long enough to connect the Turbo-Sensor and the plug at the engine.(I couldn't find any place to attached it and the UK-Models seem to look a little bit different then ours). Besides that, everything went (exeptionally) good. I even think that no dealer could have done it better. Anyway, let me know if you need any help.
Regards,
Danny
PS: Where do you live in France?? I used to live in Allschwil, BL right next to the French border, but now I live in the Zürich-Area.

Cool

Danny, I live close from Mulhouse, right next to Basel.
I had a look at the platic part below the central box. It seems rather difficult to remove without damage, how is it supposed to come out after the 2 screws next to the cup holder are removed.
I will probably ask my Subaru dealer to do the job but will stay to have a close look.
Cheers

Laurent,
Sorry to reply so late!
Remove the 2 screws on top of the center arm-rest (covered by 2 small plastic caps) and you should be able to lift the plastic part where the handbrake goes through and the side mirror adjustment buttons are fixed. You need to drill a hole in the lower part of the box with the cupholder, facing towards the dashboard. The hole has to be big enough to pass 4-cables through it (incl. the connecting plugs)!
Hope this helps.
Cheers

HI,
OK about the center console. The one which bothers me is the plastic piece where the pod will be installed. I 've seen wo screws near the rear defroster switch and cupholder. But there must be something else holding it to the dash and it does not look pretty strong (and the price for a new one is 124 CHF!)

Cheers

Hello Laurent,
Hmm, I am again late with the answer!!
First open the lid at the glovebox above the centre console. Remove the blanking plastic plates on each side. Unscrew the screws underneath the plastic plates.
Now, the fun (scary) part begins:
I used a cord for this!
First make sure that the whiper-adjustment-stick is out of your way (push it all the way down), so that when the thing 'jumps' at you, it doesn't hit this stick.
Leash the cord around the metallic bar, where the lid 'clicks'in an holds to the lower part and then ..... PULL!! Try to control your pressure, pulling the whole lot back towards the backseats in a horizontally move! It takes a LOT of force for this (I was also really afraid!) but it should work eventually. If it worked, you should have the glovebox incl. the air-vent 'grills' in your hand but NOT the cupholder and the emergency switch.
You can now drill a hole in the right part (passenger side, on not-UK cars) of the plastic piece (make the hole just as big as it needs to be to pull the (only one) plug through (thank GOD the Defi Link connects easy with a Daisy Chain from one gauge to the next)
GOOD LUCK.
Oh BTW, I used clear Silicon Sealant to mount the Pot-Holder onto the glovebox.
Cheers
Danny
