Question

Ok, finally took delivery of my new MY99 4 door (pictures to follow soon ...).

I am going to fit my boost guage this afternoon, but first I need to make a trip to the hardware store, but need some questions answered first.

The hose line that comes with the guage is very stiff, and I am wondering if it might be better to buy six feet of silicon hose and just the supplied hose where it connects to the guage. Comments anyone ?

If I go the other way and use the supplied hose, then is it better to try and attach it to the capped of plug on the manifold or buy a brass t-piece and attach it to the existing vacum hose ?

If I use the capped of adaptor, how do I do it, can I make a hole in the cap and pass the fine hose inside this and use a cable tie to hold it together, or do I need to buy a short length of tubing ?

Sorry for all the questions, I really don't want to stuff this up ...

Andrew.

Andrew, I fitted my boost gauge to the capped of plug on the manifold.

The pipe that came with the gauge is the correct on to use. It doesnt give to pressure! (Expand/Contract)

As for attaching it, you should have also received some silicon pipe. Use that, and a couple of cable ties.

If your still at a loss, have a look at Lee Christies' Web Site.

Thanks guys,

Unfortunately there was no piece of silicon tube with the guage. I guess I'll be off to try and find some this afternoon.

Will the 3mm internal diameter tubing fit over the lug on the manifold ?

I haven't take the plug off yet as I'm not sure that it will go back on easily ...

Thanks,

Andrew.

Andrew,

Yes, 3mm tubing does fit over the manifold outlet.

Thanks for the help guys.

One thing that nobody ever mentions is the fact that you need a 5th Dan in contortionism to be able to feed the tube through the grommet in the firewall.

The only way I could do it was to put the seat all the way back, lay the back of the seat all the way down, and lie upside down on the seat with my feet against the roof and my head wedged under the steering wheel ...

And then I pulled the hose too far through the firewall and had to do it all again ...

Andrew, which grommet did you put the pipe through? I used the one behind the brake pedal! This comes out through the brake pipes!

Dan,

I used the one above the clutch pedal. There is a loom running through it already, and I am going to have to replace the silicon sealant that I had to push out of the way. But the hose comes out next in a very easy to get to location in the engine bay.

By the way, did you see my question about wiring up the backlight. Any ideas on the best/easiest way to do this ?

Andy

If it's in the A-pillar, take it from the fog light illumination.
