Hi all
I had a go (well, a look) at fitting my autometer oil pressure sender unit last night. It replaces the standard oil pressure warning switch which is behind/underneath the alternator.
The sender thing is massive.
Before I go to the expense of paying my local Subaru garage to remove the alternator, fit the unit, then attempt to refit the alternator without success because it no longer seats...
Does anyone know for absolutely sure that this will fit and allow the alternator to go back in place? Looking last night, I think it's about 5mm too big to allow re-fitment of the alternator.
The car's in for a service tomorrow (Saturday)

I spoke to Gavin @ Scoobymania this morning and must have misunderstood him - I thought he was saying that they "should" fit.
They've not fitted em but have apparently sold them before and not had any come back.
So that's a "sort of yes" ish then.

Mine fitted OK, but I doubt Scoobymania have had no comeback from people that have bought them, because the thread on the sender is not the same as the thread in the block.
You can't use a metric adaptor as the sender would then not fit, so I had to re-thread the sender itself.
Stef.

Did you go for the electrical or mechanical? I've got the electrical unit.
Scoobymania told me uncategorically that the thread *was* the same as the engine block and no converter would be needed.
The reason that you had a converter, according to SM, was so you could "T" the existing pressure warning switch and sender into one place... They omitted to tell me about you having to re-thread the sender.
So basically I'm buggered? (Assuming we're talking about the same gauge here)

Just to close this tale...
Scoobymania are making an adaptor with a slight bend in it because:
The threads are slightly wrong
It needs to pitch slightly at an angle to absolutely guarantee clearance
Hopefully will be available at the end of next week, along with sump bungs and the near legendary (almost mythical ) gauge pods!!
Hooorah for Scoobymania
Nick.

Fear not Chiark. Im using an electrical sender too. I mounted the sender remotely from the block as it will no way fit under the alternator. I got a piece of braided steel hose from a company in London village (Ill try dig the receipt out) and they can fit whatever thread you require on it. Use plenty of PTFE tape as were talking 100PSI+ cold idle.
Any more info, give me a shout

Very knowledgable. I got 1/8NPT Male to 1/8 BSP Female with 2m of hose inbetween. In future I would 1M is more than enough as It is currently mounted right up behind the drivers side bulkhead!!
Total cost was £15 I think and that hose looks well nice.
PS You Ive also got an adaptor to allow you to use the oil switch if you want, but I removed it and only have the gauge now.
Regards

Richie!
You're a star!
I'll try them, and just hope that 1/8 NPT to 1/8 BSP means more to them than it does to me
I'll work out where to fit it and then give 'em a bell.
1 Brownie point to RichieC.

Gone for just 4 inches of hose as I'll cable-tie the sender onto a handy thingy.
Think Automotive seem excellent - a tenner for this (plus a penny to be precise), inc P&P and VAT, posted out same day.
I am impressed. Just hope it makes it through the xmas post!
Many thanks Richie. Suggest that Scoobymania maybe get a few of these as stock?

Not sure about the make of my sender (the gauge is VDO, though) but mine has an 'L' shaped milled brass coloured piece fitted between the block and sender. This offsets the sender and stops it fouling on anything.
Unfortunately I can't help with where to get one as mine was fitted as part of my gauge kit by the dealer in Holland.

Wotcha all
Just been to well lane turbo centre to get my sender fitted.
Turns out that the 1/8NPT should be female and the 1/8BSP should be male....
They didn't charge me the labour to find this out, which is rather nice of them.
Back on the phone to Think Automotive
