Oil Pressure and temp gauges OOO

Some help required with a small problem.
Just picked up MY98 with 3 pod centre gauges. Turbo boost works fine, but the oil pressure and temp do not work.
All connections are fine in the pod. Has anybody got any ideas?
The oil temp i think is located behind the alternator, which looks OK. No idea with the oil pressure.
Are the gauges fused?
How would can i test the temp gauge?
Has anyone got a diagram/photo of where the connections should be.

All these and many more questions.

Right I'm halfway there now. The power to the gauges was disconnected, so I have temp gauge working now but still a problem with the pressure gauge.
When the ignition is switched on I get a full scale deflection on the gauge to past the 100 (Phantom electrial) and thats where it stays? Any ways of testing?

Sounds as if the sender is faulty: can you disconnect the sender and try it then?

Stupid question but are you sure you've wired the live and earth the right way round?When I ws fitting mine I did this and the needle went off the scale and stayed there. Switched the wires and it worked fine.
Just an idea.

Edited to add if you disconnect the sender, as suggested above, and it's still up there then it's the wiring and vice versa.

Dicke C,

Is there any chance that when you get your guage set up - you could post a brief summary of it's normal day to day operation? The reason I ask is that my OP Guage behaves very weirdly (one minute it looks fine, the next it's too high/low or has dropped off the end of the scale!) and I cannot seem to get a straight answer from the dealer or s/n!!!

Mr DBM,
I have mine set up what seems to be the problem? It's a phantom electrical oil pressure as above.
When cold the oil pressure is about 75psi at iddle which drops to 25 when warmed up. Gauge shows a varying amount of pressure depnding on how hard I'm driving. Coasting and light acceleration shows about 50 psi and hard acceleration is about 75 psi. I realise these are all a bit vague but I tend to watch the road while I'm driving. At least most of the time.
Hope this helps. BTW car is MY97 Sport so might be slightly different for a Turbo.

The problem is quite hard to describe really - it works as you describe for most of the time, however sometimes it can drop off the end of the scale! - This happens a couple of times during every drive - strange.

The REALLY weird thing is that it appears to be connected to the MY00 hesitation bug in some way - whenever the car 'does it's hesitation thing' it's a guarantee that the pressure guage drops to nothing.

As I say - weird!

Oh by the way, I've checked out all of the connection inside and out, nothing appears to be wrong. (to my untrained eye anyway!)

Right, had some spare time today and looked again.
Tried swapping over the + and - lead, but gauge still shows the same. With the signal lead disconnected, the needle returns to the left, just below the 0. Reconnected it jumps straight over the scale and just sits there.
Now 2 questions.
1: Is the gauge faulty?
2: Is the sender faulty, if so how much to replace.

Alcazar says sender, I think I'll second him. Any ideas?

Yeah i reckon sender too. I can't be the other wires cos you've undone them and still had the same problem. Give www.scoobymania.co.uk a shout. They may be able to help you. I got a replacement pipe from them for mine just before xmas.

Right I've sourced a new sender, which will be ordered soon. So my next question is........can I have both oil pressure gauge and the Subaru oil pressure warning light. There seems 2 options. One would be to connect a "T" piece to the old connector, and then the sender to that. The second is you can buy senders with 2 wires, one for the pressure signal and one for a warning light(can that be connected to the exsisting lead)
