Hi there,

I have a friend, a couple in fact, from Egypt. They are fairly well to do, maintain a holiday home over here, other properties around the World and so on.

They own a car here, but are unable to keep it here in their own name, insure it themselves and so on.

They have another friend over here, who keeps their car in his name, insures it in his name, maintains it etc.

Whenever they are over here, he simply phones his insurance company and has their names added to 'his' policy for when they are here.

So, the question is this: Can they not get the car put in their names and insure it themselves? Money is not an object. They seem to think that the law does not allow them to do this. Is this right?

Assuming the car is staying in the UK it shouldn't be an issue, as they have a home here

Hi Gary,

Apparently it is, as their friend has said that he spoke to 9 different insurers, of whom, only one would actually insure them in the way I have described above.

The car is a Mercedes ML320. Is there someone in your office who can help them with this please? Would be good business for you.

Not all insurers we use would quote (most probably wouldn't), but we should have 3-4 companies who'll give a price

Seems that you were able to sort my friends out. Well done and thank you very much. Never thought I would get a chance to post a 'Thank you Moley' thread, as I am with A-Plan, but I am glad to be able to do so.
