Hi guys,
This is my first post on the forum. I want to buy a impreza in a month or so but the insurance is going to kill me.
My brother has a sti v4 that i want to buy but the quotes i have had are £2800

Im 27 and have been driving 4 years but only have 1 years no claims,not due to accidents though and i have no covictions. I didnt have a car for a few years due to no job. I will have 2 years in october but dont want to wait that long.

I can get insured on a 2000 awd turbo uk car but not on a import. The reason i want an import is because i can get a good deal off my brother for the sti v4.

Does anyone recommend any insurance companies that are likely to insure me for less than 2 grand?? Is it worth me just getting a 2000 turbo?

I really want a scooby i know that much!!

You will struggle mate, 41 year old been driving for 25 years with full ncb, decent postcode area but because I have not driven performance cars over the last few years they cant quote me special rates, saying that KM did quote me £600 for a 2005 wrx which is not bad but not as good as if I had any previous subaru experience.

A plan could not get near this figure again only due to lack off performance car experience.

going to see if gary can get any better than his colleagues - dont see how but you never know ??!! also will give sky a phone.

Can almost guarntee you it wont be £1000 or under mate, think you are in for a shock but again insurance is a funny thing and hopefully you can prove me wrong- good luck !!

Admiral is the cheapest normal market insurer. Iv had lots of performance experience but still 24 with 5 ync and I pay 130 a month on a blob wrx. Worked out at about a grand in one go. Worth adding some older family members with lots of experience, estimate your milage at like 6k, park in a garage, tracker and clifford etc. Will drop it right down

Tracker makes no difference to my admiral insurance. I'm with them and parking it in my garage actually put the premium up so I park it on driveway instead!! Even the salesman was dumbfounded. But admiral are good if you have to claim, although it is a good couple of months wait, but they do sort it out eventually. Before going with admiral I tried to get hold of Gary mouldson at keith michaels but he is very hard to get hold off, to the point I had to give up. Makes you worry about what would happen in the event you had to make a claim.

I think it's the fact you only have 1 yrs no claims and unfortunately being under 30. I have 13 or 14 yrs, 34 yrs old, no points, no accidents, live in a safe area and still paying 750 per year with admiral. Ive heard direct line are supposed to be good but they didn't come up in moneysupermarket so missed them out. I believe you have to contact them direct. A Plan weren't much good with me. Wanted me to have driven subarus before. My last car was a 350z and before that top of range golf v6. Made no difference. It had to be a Subaru. Sorry to sound negative. It is expensive but you may need to bite the bullet, at least for next three yrs. Imports will be a LOT more expensive to insure. Good luck mate

Who told you that mate ?? again makes no difference if its a uk model or import at least with KM and A PLAN

Sorry meant to say I was referring to regular "high street" insurance companies who allow modifications but aren't "specialist".. many won't even touch import Subaru's or at best quote much higher prices. This has always been the case unfortunately regarding imports.

However like you say specialists like K M and A Plan will be different though and a lot better and know there is very little difference so therefore offer similar premiums...as it should be.

OP, even though I couldn't get hold of Gary Mouldson you may be able to so keep trying with them or if not worth speaking to his colleagues to see what quote they can offer as KM do sound like your best bet in your circumstances. Or try Adrian Flux. Again, not the easiest to get hold off (they are closed outside work hours!!) and not the best customer service but they do, or used to, offer good quotes for young drivers with modified cars. Got a quote for 996.65 for a uk turbo from ecar! I heard they ain't great but cheapest so far. Tempted!

That sounds very good UK Turbos are very good cars in standard condition (what year you going for) and depending on what difference basic modifications make to your insurance, can be modded to a reasonable level on a par with most JDM's blistering stock performance. Only downside is many insurance companies (unless specialist) do not like any kind of remap...something to bear in mind later down the road, unless of course you want to keep the car stock.

I'm thinking of like 1998/9 reg. I like the facelift ones. Not planning on modding it for a while cos they are quick standard,plus I will need to get used to driving a awd. I will pay the insurance out write so no monthly payments to worry about. Got about 2.5k to get a half decent uk turbo,is that enough?

You'd speak to the claims department who deal with the claims.... not Gary (who doesn't deal with them)

That's ok Chris, my renewal is October so I may wait untill then to get one. I haven't got the cash to buy the car just yet but will very soon. Is it worth waiting for the 2 years ncb??

Personally I would wait, just because its another year in your favour. Would be a shame to wipe out the second year for the sake of a few months.
