Anyone else? Trying to get a decent quote..
Hi all
Trying to get a decent quote on my new Impreza.
My current broker (Chris Knott) is coming in at over a grand when I renew in May.
Adrian Flux were £1200+, as were 'Subaru Insured'.
Direct Line not terrible at £823 but insisted on having a tracker fitted.
No reply from Keith Michaels yet or A-Plan.
Tried confused.com, cheapest quote I got back was £511 fully comp, protected NCB, £350 total excess (no voluntary). Disadvantage with this policy is no modifications allowed, nothing, nada, which is putting me off. Next few companies are in the £600-700 region.
I'm 31, full uk license over 10 years, no claims, no points but SP30 + 56d ban in July 2005. Car is a MY99 std UK car with stainless exhaust. Not intending to do any major modifications but perhaps big brakes and a remap.
Any recommendations?
Thanks

Was your decent quote from confused.com a Post Office one ? they are quoting me 500ish with business mileage and my wife on the policy (who only had a provisional) again no mods allowed though so I'm going to have to change the exhaust back.

I'll be checking if the AA cover slight mods and if so probably go with them if noone else gets back to me in time. I don't really like having to chase insurance companies around.

One word of caution that put me off First Central when I was looking round last November for a renewal quote on my old BMW. If you read the small print First Central are not a UK registered company, they are regulated by the FSA over in Gibralta. I'm no insurance expert but didn't like the thought of not having my policy regulated by a UK body.
Sure someone will explain the difference!

I'm struggling also.
I'm 31 and have a stock JDM ver 5 Sti Wagon.
Don't have any UK NCB etc though since I have been living/working all over the world for the last few years.
Got quoted £2700 fully comp.
I got insured in Australia on a modified Skyline for the equivilant of ~£700.
WTF!

Do you have any proof of no-claims from other countries? I mean, NCB isn't currency or goods - it's just a discount based on a no claim record and if you can provide that then why should a broke/insurer not honour it? I think some of them need a bit of a reality check to be honest.

I was insured over there and made no claims. I was insured for 1 year with RAC and then 6 months with someone else.

Sorry I wasn't suggesting you could do that, but that it should count for something. I appreciate the insurance is partly based on your experience driving in this country but some of the rules regarding NCB are pretty unfair (like cancelling part-periods due to changing insurance companies - Flux are a pain for this).. I was with Flux for several years whilst chopping and changing cars frequently and didn't rack up much NCB at all!

Well looks like £2,700 is the best I can do, and I went round lots of places are also 3rd parties.
That is from Adrian Flux and they accomodated my no claims in Australia and my previous ownership of a Skyline. So I was wrong that the did not accept Australian no claims per se...it's just a bit irregular and a grey area.
Still kind of shell shocked at the cost of UK insurance. As I said my skyline was modded quite a bit and still only £700 fully comp in Australia.
I'm really a careful driver and respect powerful cars, but I feel I'm being treated like a 17 y/o with no sense of his morality (I am 31).
Never even had a scrape in almost 10 years of driving.

Keith Michaels sorted me out with £1,359 (fully comp) in the end.
Given some places were quoting more than 3 large I'm happy with that.
They said it will come down a lot next year assuming I make no claims.
