All sorted!
Initial issue left below but i have since been in touch with A-Plan and while the cover was good (actually less than £500 they just added on all the other bits i don't need into the quote) it was with Norwich Union who despite their happy advertising i have always found to be decidely grumpy, main point on a fully comp policy no cover for driving other cars which is vital for me so looks like a good job from KM.
Have to call it when it is wrong. Some nice advice though guys cheers.

Just a quickie, trying to get the facts before i make a call.
Basically, just renewed the insurance. Originally KM wanted to put it up, blaming the credit crunch and other people crashing a lot (neither of which are my fault). Anyway, after some chat it came back down slightly to £575
Just before renewal i had a call from A-Plan who went away to see what they could do. They never called back so i assumed they couldn't beat the price. However, they actually sent me a quote in the post, £514
Does anyone know if there is a 'cooling off' period for insurance? The cover looks to be exactly the same, it may even be the same underwriter and right now i'd like that £60 in my pocket!

I doubt your current insurer will reduce their price, but may be able to speak to another company and see if they can do anything.

Cheers will do! It'll be tomorrow though. As i said, been more than happy with the service, i just got the usual calls at renewal time after contacting them in the first place when i bought the car (and you couldn't insure me until i'd had it a year)
Also lesson to A-Plan, call don't write!

to the rescue!
howdo, i used to work for quite a few insurance companies and yes there is a coolingoff period, you may be charged an admin fee (usually £15 and the time you have spent on cover). you will be required to return your certificate of insurance and they won't cancel it until they receive due to legal reasons. so may not be worth it unless you get it their quickly. i found post office real good value this year 560 for an sti very nice!!
hope this helps. any insurance queries guys gimme a shout i'll be happy to lend a hand
