Your insurance will be a 4 figure sum, all depends on the model your interested in. Imports will be more difficult to insure at your age and when you do get a quote..... sit down before they tell you.!!
Just how much would you be willing to pay for insurance? I just couldn't stomach paying over a 1k per year.
I'm 26 and insured with A plan, £500 per year FC, 6yncb, clean licence on an 03 STI.

FWIW who gave you DOC (driving other cars) at 20? Does it state you have it on your certificate?

As I read it, our 20 year old friend has managed to insure his Corsa for £44 per month by both registering the Corsa and insuring it in his bosses' name and it is the bosses' so-called insurers who have given any driver usage plus 3rd party only cover on any other car which is why, if the younster prangs the Scooby, he says he is on 3rd party only cover.
I suspect, if our clever friend actually checks the policy properly, it is only the boss who can driver any other car and not him.
In a big shunt, especially if someone is seriously injured or even killed, he'll come very seriously unstuck as he has told lies to get the policy in the first place and his boss, if he's got any sense at all, will disown the lad.
Sadly, the boy's highly likely to get away with it and, as he is so keen to tell us all about his illegal scam on this website, he'll boast about it to his mates in the pub and they'll do the same.

20withascooby:
The 'driving other cars' extension is always for cars NOT OWNED by the policyholder - and if you read the notes with the V5 it makes it very clear that the registered keeper is not necessarily the legal owner.
In other words, you're not insured, at all. I'd have hoped the police would have been thorough enough to investigate a bit further - driving a scooby at 20 is unusual enough that alarm bells should have been ringing. I got my first one at 25 and was still paying over a grand with about 4 yrs NCB.
Do the decent thing and sort your paperwork out properly. If you crash and hurt someone, they WILL investigate your circumstances more closely before paying out - what you're doing is the oldest trick in the book.

To the poster: A quote for a Scooby at 20 will hurt. Many won't quote at all, a few will give you ridiculous figures of 4-5k. The best you can hope for is 1.5k 2k if you're very, very lucky.
People who drive without valid insurance = Ar*eholes who shouldn't be on the road!

It's not 'other ppls' cars, though, is it? It's your car. You own it, regardless of whose name is on the log book.
Don't you think that's going to come out if you hit someone and have to claim?

well, if he ever crashes into me, and his insurance becomes void, or indeed the police just simply look at this thread (knowing bobbies frequent this forum, as insurance brokers to do), he'll need life insurance. simple as.
very risky game your playing 20w.a.s. fella
all imho of course

It might seem to you now that the car is the most important thing in your life and you want it right now - but really - its not worth it. If you cant do this 100% straight then dont do it at all.
Get everything above board with your corsa, get a couple of years insurance under your belt, then think about buying a subaru.

Oh one last thing, your boss needs his head examined.
If you kill someone in your car and the police go knocking on the owners door he is going to get some serious questions thrown at him.

i dont know were all these are getting insurance on scoobs at that age. my mate is 21 2years nc and he is wanting a scoob newage wrx 4k plus. so i said why not try a uk 2000 he was still getting quoted over 3k.
im 24 5ync have owned and insured other perfomance cars before and still pay 1k now on a my02 wrx.
but if you can afford these high quotes go for it because you dont mind paying extra to drive a scoob, just remember they are still expensive to run without even taking into account insurance.

Wish I could have even afforded a car at 20 - but then I wasnt living at home rent free with mummy and daddy, so had to pay boring things like rent and bills etc...
I often wonder how these kids can afford it - you see them driving cars worth £5K or £6K - I'm sure a lot of them are fiddling the insurance and its in their parents names - cant see how they can be buying a car for that price, and paying a couple of hundred a month in insurance. Maybe its all the nice parents buying them a brand new 106 for passing their A levels and then paying the insurance for them as well ???
Maybe its me getting older, but whats the deal with 20 year olds wanting an Impreza anyway ? when I was 20 I didnt know anyone who had a performance or sports car, and much as we would all have liked one, then it was something you looked forward to buying when you were older, could get cheaper insurance and afford to buy it without taking out a huge loan you'd be paying back for the next 10 years.
To 20withascooby - you need to be very careful - and your boss is a *** for helping you. What happens if you are driving your impreza on tp only and you stuff it into a hedge trying to impress your mates ? bye bye car ! How about if some scally steals it from outside your house - you wont be able to claim.
IMHO if you cant get the car you want and insure it legitimately without defrauding the insurance company, WAIT and buy it when you can - like us grown ups have to - I'm sure there's plenty of us on here would love to go out and spend 30 or 40 grand on a new car, but have mortgages and families that take priority, so will have to wait until they can.
