Thumbs down greenlight

After hearing decent things about Greenlight I thought I would give them a go for my insurance.

However I was told this "
Unfortunately, Greenlight's panel of specialist underwriters do not cover your postcode area "

I was also told it is to modified!! Its only got a decat exhaust, 17inch alloys, induction kit and apexi power fc and a smaller turbo (estimated output about 270bhp)

WTF is that all about, it is a machester postcode (2 streets away from a totally different postcode WN as opposed to M**)

Now, manchester can be quite rough, but Im sure around the midlands and also london there are higher crime rates. does this mean Greenlight only insure vehicles in low crime rate places??? Imagine how much business they can be losing out on if they are excluding areas as big an area that the M* postcode covers.

rant over

I had exactly the same m8 from GL, underwriters wouldn't cover my OL postcode (Tony did try and help but his hands were tied). Try A-Plan they sorted me out an excellent price with all mods declared .

Have a look here at post number 5, explains why Manchester postcodes are a problem for insurers

Hi Jay,

I'm glad that you heard good things about my company & am sorry that we couldnt offer terms for you this time around.

Just to clarify, mods are not a problem.. we cover anything up to & including Nitrous oxide/rollcages etc - all on a like for like replacement basis (which we pioneered in 1996!!)

We also offer track cover & agreed value options within some of our scheme products.

Our main scheme underwriters have had a really bad time in some postcode areas and the choice they had was to either subsidise the poor performing areas by loading the areas that performed well - thus rendering themselves less competitive in those area's, or in order to remain competitive in areas that performed well they exclude areas from their specific schemes.

The only reason you received that message would be as a last resort, when we could not source competitive terms for you. As a specialist vehicle broker, we only earn a living by placing risks (not refusing them) so we would have attempted to obtain a rate for you.

Kind regards

Tony

Do the underwriters distinguish between postcode nos. i.e M28 or M29 etc or do they clump all nos. within the M postal code i.e 1-30 all the same. As jay states we are a stones throw away from WN postcodes but suffer on insurance issues even though it is a safer more civilised area compared to a lot of the WN areas.
I understand that insurers pay out about 8 times more than they receive around Manchester as a whole but surely this is not in all areas of Manchester.

Hi Andy,

As you correctly identified, unless they have been incredibly lucky. Insurers have historically paid out more than they receive in most Manchester postcodes.

They have the ability to rate down to street level, but where they have experienced losses for 3 or more years, most of our underwriters take a view on the collective region.

As a broker we do not like to turn business away, but at this stage we are unable to source competitive rates within areas that have consistently performed badly for our Insurers.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the reply with regards to the postcodes structure. Even though you couldn't help me last time it is good to see both yourself and Gary at KM offering sound advise.
It is a credit to yourselves that you show an interest in the concerns of your customers (and potential ones). Keep up the good work and thanks again

Andy.
