How does this compare ?

Comparison... 5 years NCD, MY98 wagon, ITG air filter, braided brake hoses, STi back box, MY00 wheels, 27 year old clean driver, garaged, cat 1 and tracking device £788
Greenlight.
Eagle Star sound pretty competetive.

I have a standard MY97 'R' am 26 years old, have a clean license & full NCB which is protected and it costing me 1033!
How's mine so expensive??
My dad's also on the policy and the car is always garaged. It's also fitted with a multi-lock and has a thatcham cat1 alarm/imobilisher
Cheers

There's an art to buying insurance - and the system will work you if you don't work it first.
Try this:
- start with a 'good' insurance company, that you think really understand your car. Talk to them about what's in & out of your cover, to get their quote as low as possible.
- call your second choice insurer. When they ask what the best quote you've had is, tell them at least 100 pounds less. You're trying to get to the floor in three or four quotes. If they come back with a matching (or better) quote, then try to take some cost out of it by varying the cover, or raising the excess, then thank them & move on to the next company.
Keep going until somebody has to ask their manager to allow a quote price...shave your supposed best quote by less as you sense you're reaching the floor.
Try calling in the last 30 minutes before they close for the day - call centre teams have targets to meet and bonuses to earn. Managers will give a little more at the end of the day to meet targets and motivate their team.
Then go back to the first company & see if they'll match or beat the quote. If they won't, well done, you've beaten the system. That's as good as it's going to get.
Remember you can play this game any time in the month before your insurance is due - but it's easier in the 7 days before the policy goes live.
Does it work? Well, I cut the cost on my Maserati (Gp 20) from £1200 to £450, with the same insurer. And wife's Saab Turbo (Gp 16) from £850 to £375 ;¬)

Well renewal day came yesterday - I rang up Eaglestar told them agin what I wanted to do asked them to speak to the underwriters, told them I had another quote for modifed insurance that was a bit more +10GBP.
They came back and said yes !
I guess it must be driver / history / persistence dependant !
Most pleased !
