Default BEST INSURANCE COMPANIES?????

Hi all,
I'm looking for fully comp isurance on my impreza uk turbo 99. ive been driving 3 years, but last 2 ive been named driver on my boyfriends. now, they are saying they wont insure me, due to mods, as i havent got a tracking device! norwich union quoted me £1607! without a tracker on. has anybody else encountered this problem, and if so, who did you use?? also, what is the best/cheapest tracker to have fitted (if needs be) and how much am i looking at to be fitted?
thanks in adavance,
jak

Your looking at anything up from 200 quid for a tracking system, and tbh, if you dont fit one your looking for trouble.
Your quote (tpft or fully comp?) depending on your age? (20ish??) is pretty good.

I bought my '01 WRX a month ago and had trouble with insurance because I don't have 2+ years no claims. I had quotes of £2k - £3.5k from a few companies but most wouldn't touch me, including my existing company (Direct Line). A few useful bits of info I gained from ringing round:
  • Elephant.co.uk were by far the cheepest (£700 less) than anyone else
  • Elephant do not require a tracker
  • Tesco are renouned for being cheap for Sccoby's but do require a tracker and 2+ years no claims
  • AA wanted £2200
  • Most companies want over 25's only, 2+ years NCD, approved tracker fitted
  • **TRY ADDING A SPOUSE OR PARENT TO THE INSURANCE COVER. ADDING MY SOON-TO-BE EX-WIFE KNOCKED £280 OFF MY QUOTE (£1504 INSTEAD OF £1784) WIERD BUT TRUE**
(p.s. I went with elephant)

update on the call....
spoke to rob, (he's lovely aint he) and he gave me a really good quote, wasnt bothered by no tracker either. i was totally shocked by their quote and the boy/f switched his motor insurance to them too, so got a further discount for two policies!
thanks LIDDO, your a star.

i think i will get a tracker fitted though, after my hols next week. been told it would be a good investment
