Default Would you wait 3 months?

hullo,

Basically just picked up my MY95 import WRX tonight, and i rang the insurance company that I thought rang me last week (from an online quote i did) to get insured on it for the price of £1250 FC!

Anyway rang them, and I must have my wires crossed as its the wrong company apparently and they wont insure me till im 25! gutted! I think I might have found the right company since ( i did about 20 online quotes at the time) but have to wait till tomorrow to ring them to check!!

but.....iv been trying a few quotes with my age as 25 just to see and FC im looking at £890 with tesco! maybe even cheaper with others!

im 24 with 6 years no claims, no points, no convictions, car has a cat1 and tracker, and is in an alarmed garage.

im 25 in 3 months (end of may), would you wait till then? or hunt for insurance now around the £1200 mark! (i aint paying any more than that, most places are £1.7-£2k)

seems a fukin ballache for the sake of 3 months! iv got 6 years no claims, whats 3 months gonna prove! really annoying!

Isn't it best to insure it now in case anything happens to it whilst it's on your drive. If you pay monthly run the insurance for 3 months , then cancel it once you're 25 and take out a much cheaper policy.

cheers chris! yeh that had crossed my mind actually mate!

the car is safe its in the front of an alarmed garage with another car behind it, but I think you have suggested the best idea!

Hopefully A-Plan are the company who rang me with the good quote! I thought it was warwick davis for some reason, then when i rang them to take out the policy they said it wasnt! so fingers crossed it will be them!

it would kill me to have the car in the garage for 3 months!!

Have you tried sticking your mum on your policy, usually reduces your quote.

That's not a bad idea. The other thing to do might be to get a parent to insure it as an additional car on an exsisting policy they have, a limited mileage policy will keep the cost down (say 1000 miles pa) for the next 3 months.

right iv figured i cant wait 3 months now as my current insurers will only refund me if i show them proof iv got a policy on the car with someone else! and thats £700 they owe me!

best quote now is £1700, i might try adding my mum on that see if it knocks it down!

they said i can pay over 3 months for the 1year which is a little less harsh on the bank balance

I spoke to a company earlier...said it doesnt matter who is on your policy...you still have to be over 25...whether you want to be the policy holder or just a named driver

So wait three months then tell them you've dropped a 6 litre supercharged engine in there with nitrous and a million or so bhp, I'm sure they wouldn't insure you then

I'm sure you don't have to buy insurance for a year, just insure it monthly for 3 months

Jay, well it looks like they work by only refunding you if its their fault that they cant insure you. i.e not being 25. if you cancell because you turn 25 and are getting it cheaper elsewhere they take 50% of the whole amount for the policy. if not then they just charge a £25 admin fee

If you enter into an annual policy, cancelling it after 3 months will cost you big time, as you've found out. You could just cancel the direct debit and tell em to 'ck emselves, but you will find out in a few months time that you've got a debt collector on your back... And might have a problem with credit ratings in the future.

The monthly policy sounds like a good idea?

yes exactly mate! the only way around it would be to get the insurance swapped to a 1.0 micra or something that my mate has sat on his drive uninsured, as this policy is for imports only, no uk cars, therefore if i want to insure a UK car, regardles of what the car was they can refund me as its not my fault that they cant insure me!

it may sound harsh but
you should of had insurance the day you picked the scooby up
just think if you had got car gone around the island and lost it big time or even worse hurt somebody
you would be gutted and out of pocket big time and might get locked up
plus the threat of getting tugged by plod
big fine for no insurance and even harder to get later in life
if your age is affecting the insurance why didnt you wait 3 months to buy the scoob?
insurance is steep on these motors but **** me they are more than worth the 600 quid f/c i pay with mods declared

its ok mate im not that daft i was insured to drive any car on my existing policy, and it was still insured by the previous owner. he only lived 10mins down the road too so i only drove it 4 miles! its been in my garage locked up since then!

reason i didnt wait 3 months in the first place was because a few months ago, tesco, and others all quoted me good prices! i got the car expecting to get insured and since then nearly every company have changed their policies to 25+

its all sorted now tho mate!
