Unhappy No PPP for me, Insurance tightened up...

Well, after talking to every Insurer I could find, no-one will insure a PPP upgrade to my new WRX. Not quite true, had 2 quotes around the 1800 mark, which is ridiculous for a 37 year old with clean licence and max NCB :-(

L&V will no longer cover new PPP mods as from about a week ago, so if you got the OK before then you should be OK but forget it from now on. If you're with L&V and about to get PPP, please make 100% sure you're covered! And yes, I tried phoning twice and speaking to two different people, same response.

Adrian Flux will only consider it after I've had the car for a year. Other 'Performance' insurers simply don't want to know, with comments along the lines of 'there have been a rash of claims on Imprezas recently so we won't cover them'.

It's ludicrous, I can get reasonable insurance on an STi or Evo but not a WRX + PPP! I wanted the WRX + PPP instead of STi because I want the trade-off of performance vs every day car practicality, before anyone says' Should've got an STi'!

Sorry for the rant, had to get it off my chest. Been dreaming of this combo for years and got so close :-(

28, 6 NCB, 1 attempted theft(claim ~£5k), garaged, 04 WRX Sti Type UK, prodrive springs, PFF7 alloys, PPP ~£1500 (privilege, price from memory)

I didn't go for the PPP in the end as couldn't justify the insurance hike from £950 to the quote above (plus £2k for PPP itself) all for the sake of a second here or there. I may rethink it over time of course

I found the WR1 a lot cheaper to insure than an STI with PPP would have been.

I'll second that. That's one of the main reasons I bought a WR1. It seems to be often overlooked by the critics but a WR1 is everything you might want to reasonably do to an STI (keeping warranty intact) but is still classed as a standard car as far as the insurance muppets are concerned! Add this up over 3 years of ownership and the WR1 comes out as the sensible option.

Yup. I think from memory that the few places that would quote me on an STI with PPP wanted about £1000 more to insure it than the WR1!

I just ditched L&V today because they wouldn't insure my STI8 PPP as I had a Hayward & Scott back box fitted this morning!

Phoned Privilege and they sorted me out with no problem. ALL mods included and £100 cheaper at £800

When I called L&V to cancel they told me they were due me £122! Result

Try AA. Yes, they are brokers but seemed to manage to get me a good deal, after a few slightly heated exchanges of words, they called me back and said I could have the 'special rate' of £830, fully comp, with £350 excess, provided I took out the policy there and then. Living in West London, driveway, full no claims (not that this really gets you any discount), age 41. The insurance is from Norwich Union but AA got me a cheaper quote. Ive now got an Evo 7 FQ 300 for £825 fully comp, from the AA again, but my excess is £520 now. Even Privilege backed out when I told them PPP WRX 03. All tossers, insurance companies. How the f**ck can they want mega high premiums AND excesses? we can't win, ever, they can't lose, ever.

That sounds a good price.

I'm also with privilege but have changed mid year from my old clio 172 to the WR1 - from what I can tell the WR1 is circa 850 per year, the clio being about 450 - I'm 28 in a decent-ish post code.

Another with Privilege here. 35, 15 NCD, 0 pts, Leeds postcode, WRX PPP on driveway. They didn't know what PPP was, so listed a BB, I/C pipe and chip to increase 20%+ on the policy. All for 678 quid

I asked the guy if they had anything listed as 'prodrive' on their system. We eventully agreed to the description of Subaru WRX STI Prodrive with a 2003 manufacturers date.

He said that was the only prodrive he had listed under Subaru so no wonder you had trouble finding a non STI one

Has anyone actually found an insurance company (Excluding Subaru Insured) that recognises what a PPP is?

I'm with Tesco, have been for 3 years but they didn't have a clue! Hence mine is listed as a chip and exhaust modification.

The renewal has just arrived and they want £860 for a Classic PPP. I’m 28 with 8 years NCD, car garaged in an exceptionally good area. Tracker etc fitted.

I find it so frustrating when phoning around getting alternative quotes, talking to some pleb who hasn’t got a clue. Rant over!
