Default Pre-accident value of a written off car

How do insurers determine the pre-accident value of your written off car.

Do they just lift the figure straight from Classes guide / CAP book?

Can anybody tell me what my car's worth if i give the details? - (Nova GSi)

The reason I ask, is that the Assesors are coming to view it next week, and I'm expecting them to compare it's value to a bag of peanuts.

The more time I've got to prove it's worth £1250, the better! LOL!

Do some research as follows :-

1-Go to newsagents
2- Ask them for local autotrader
3- Handover over £2.25
4- Look for adverts for similar cars
5- Register with autotrader website
6- Make a national search for similar cars
7- Produce all service records bills etc
8- Buy local paper which has S/h car ads
9- If you know of website for Novas look
in for sale section for comparables

How the **** can i be planning an insurance job, when someone hit me up the **** last week and has written my car off?

I was merely asking how the insurance assessors ascertain the value of a vehicle, so that i can try to get back the same amount of money that i paid for it.

Get a life, you moron

Go and play in the road...hopefully your neighbour will run you over on his uninsured moped!

Best thing to do I found was to search the 'net for cars similar to yours for sale and print them out and buy copies of the trader, performance vauxhall mag or whatever and keep all the adverts. My fiancees car got written off last December and she had a 90 spec golf gti 16 valve that she paid about £1,600 for and I'd done alot of work on and the insurance company started off by offering her just over £1,000 IIRC after I provided them with evidence of what it was really worth if she was to sell it they agreed to pay out £1,700 IIRC Ok it wasn't what she would have sold it for but it was the best she was going to get

The accident wasn't her fault either so I know how you must be feeling, it's been 10 months now and the claim is still being disputed even though she got sideswiped by the rear of another car out of control She had to replace her car at greater cost to her & has no no-claims now due to to an accident that wasn't her fault in any way

Hope that helps you any way

I know where you're coming from, Paul...Insurance companies are a PITA to deal with even at the best of times!

They valued mine @ £1010.00 and £50.50 to buy it back! LOL - I wasn't going to argue with that, as it's £300 more than I paid for it.
Just waiting for the OK to dismantle it now.

Just as you are experiencing, I fear that settling the claim is going to be a struggle.
Even though I was hit up the **** whilst in a stationary queue of traffic, I'm expecting the 3rd Party insurers to claim that I reversed into their client, or something along those lines.

I've had a Helphire Polo 1.2 3cyl. piece of ****e for just over a week now...I figured that at £65 +VAT per day hire charge, this alone might make the Insurers act quickly to close and settle the claim!

As I have a TPFT policy, my insurers (Highway) have written to me stating that they will NOT suspend my NCB unless the 3rd party submits a claim to them (which, touch wood they haven't done yet!)
With a bit of luck I'll be able to convert and insure the replacement one that I've just bought, as a 2 Litre

She was with highway too but fully comp (for what it was worth ) and they have proved to be pretty useless I've found I had one of those 3 cylinder polos a year or so ago whilst my old Puma was in for repair and it was one of the worst cars I've ever driven It sounded like a diesel, red lined like a diesel & went like a diesel without a turbo What bits are you stripping off then?

I plan to strip the entire thing, then cut the shell up and take it to the tip.

I recently replaced the engine, clutch, brakes (with astra gsi discs and calipers) and all of the service bits - Cambelt, plugs, leads, distributor cap, rotor arm etc.

I really only want to keep it for those bits.
Planning to put interior, dash, fuel tank and pump, radiator...etc onto ebay to recoup the £50 i paid the insurance for it.
