I used to use scanners and high end colour copiers to produce "notes"..
.. if you get stopped by a coppiceman now, they can check with a cross reference on the PNC and insurance DB, so any ***** with a fake covernote not only gets busted for having no insurance, but also under harsh deception laws

You will need insurance if you are planning on driving it away on Friday. Best bet as you say is to get a quote stored and phone up when you need the cover. Provided your insurers systems has you down as covered and a covernote is in the post to you you should be fine. This assumes you are with an insurer/broker who will answer the phone at whatever time you ring. If yiy do get through they may want some payment up front. Best thing is to ask them all the detail when you get the quote.

I think you will find Direct Line front a branded service for Tesco. If you check out the Tesco motor insurance website and the Direct Line or Privilege one they will be very similar.
